As always the BQ gets way too many seats.

It still pisses me off that they are considered a Federal party, when they only run provincially.

Mockery of democracy, bloc at 6% yet have 30 seats.

That’s the magic of FPTP - regional parties do far better than small national ones. It’s the same in the UK with the Scottish National Party. But Canadians have shown no enthusiasm for systems that deliver a closer match between popular vote share and seats. On a whole raft of issues, we’ve postponed change in this country.

I don't care that they only run provincially, there are other parties that do that too (Christian Heritage Party anyone?).

What pisses me off is that they were basically founded on the premise to destroy Canada, and yet somehow we let them run in our elections.

The election is pretty much status quo, with a Liberal minority government, which I can live with. Now maybe everyone will get to work and do their damned jobs, but that's probably pretty optimistic on my part.

On the negative side, we spent $600 million to re-affirm the status quo, but on the plus side, Alberta ditched at least one more blue fencepost (and maybe two more in Edmonton).

I know some might not consider that a victory, but the more people in Alberta who wake up and realize the CPC isn't their friend, the sooner we'll get a party that actually might help us out.

Well that was just a big fat waste of everybody's time and money. I voted only because my wife was on her way there anyway. I didn't want to-it's a done deal where I live (rural interior BC is blue by a large margin). None of the candidates did anything for me, none of the parties did anything for me. I would rather have just stayed home.

I'll take an educated guess and say that if the Bloc didn't exist, those votes would go to the Liberals first and the NDP second, nothing for the Conservatives.

Just woke up and checked the results. Not only are we back to where we started, but it seems Toronto has fucked everyone yet again.

What a fucking waste of time and money. Words cannot express how irritated and disgusted I am that we went through all of that just to put us back to start.

I hope the fucking government falls at the first confidence motion and puts this country in a perpetual state of elections because at this point, we deserve nothing less.

Fucking joke.

-J.

Interesting take here: “Toronto has fucked everyone again.” Not Toronto has voted for the people they want? Perhaps it’s the people of Southern Ontario, outside TO, voting for O’Fool who are the ones “fucking” everyone again

Carl Poppers "Paradox of Tolerance" comes to mind here.

Well, you can't question the Bloc's effectiveness (as well as the PQ within Quebec). Quebec is clearly the most entitled province. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I say. The Reform party started as a western-focussed party ("The West wants in!"), but as soon as they hit Panem they sold out the Districts pretty fast, and Harper ended up entrenching power in the East far more than the Liberals ever had. Yet another reason to hate Harper.

The new Maverick Party claims to be "west-focussed," but I read their platform and it's basically just "let's pour money into oil and gas." Stoopid name as well. On the other hand, their platform is not welcoming to the social conservatives /evangelical nutbars so maybe there's hope for them. Doubt it.

They tried the "Rebel Party" in focus groups, but no one wanted Ezra as PM. Plus having Lees Battle Flag as theirs gave people the correct wrong impression.

Tim Uppal just got declared winner of Edmonton Centre Millwoods, with 38% of the vote (50% last election) less than 1% margin over the Liberal candidate.

People might be figuring it out.

As with the above comments about the Bloc I also do not see the point in a Federal party representing only one province and for that province's interests only. It's ridiculous and always has been.

Perhaps someday we'll have leadership with the balls to put forth change in our party system requirements.

Right now I'd be satisfied with leadership with the balls to:

Stand up to the USA regarding the fucking land border crossing. They have banned us yet we threw the door wide open to them? That doesn't make sense when air travel is a go both ways.

Force people, by cutting off their handouts, to go back to their jobs that are available again now that near everything is open and employers need employees.

Of course there are many more issues but these are 2 things that annoy me right now. It's too bad we are stuck with the same wuss who will do nothing for the next 4 years? 2 years? When someone needs a hug?

It's in the Constitution that Quebec has a minimum number of seats, regardless of population. 75 to be exact. At 100,000 people per seat, that means they would have 84 right now. But they have 78. That's one reason they can elect a significant number of MPs that can even form Opposition like they did in 1993.

People in Newfoundland have 84,000 people per seat. The west averages 110,000 per seat.

I would prefer that ratio gets fixed, so everyone's vote is equal, first. Then we can declare the BQ as outlaws.

6 years of bawling, whining and Trudeau hate. Calls election and rather than rejoice at the chance to ditch him they bawl, whine, double down on the hate and bitch about the cost and election's unnecessary. Candidates on about illegal border crossings, crime, poor little oil companies, wishy-washy Covid stance, piss poor (non-existent)environmental policies and promise to cancel daycare funding.
No fucking wonder they lost.
So we get a $610 millon dollar cabinet shuffle, as the ACTUAL majority of Canadians prefer the Lib-NDP arrangement.
Trudeau fucked up calling the election 6 weeks too late and not sticking to Covid, Covid, Covid as the main issue.
And the Greens, well they really, really fucked up most. Fucking Israel and Quebec instead of Green talking points!

They're the ultra-embarrassing cross to bear for civilized Albertans. Just like being a normal person in the Deep South. Or folks living in Austin, Texas having no other recourse except to shake their heads at the daily antics of their religion-drunk & power-addicted fellow Texan brethren.

Just gotta learn to live with it, I suppose. They're not going anywhere and neither are the rest of us in this province who can see the writing on the wall. :|
