They will never get away from that, Dan. There are way too many social conservatives in the party and they have been given too much control. These are people of the same mindset that has taken over the Republican party in the US and all you have to do is look at a poll to see how popular that is.

Their non-social policies are not substantially different from the Liberals except that they are more likely to tie us to the US. Considering the very real economic problems that the US is facing right now that is a really bad idea to begin with. Looking at polls will tell you that it is also a not a popular stance to take with the Canadian people.

This thread started with a reference to Sir John A.. Orchard's brand of conservatism is closer to that than anything Mulroney or the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives have ever come up with.

Yeah but his great fear of the U.S. gets boring. This fear that if we get along with the States we will be taken over.I have been hearing that for years and yet to see it.Goes back to a theory I have that we have been so busy trying not tobe the States or Britain we never became ourselves, just what we aren't.

Thanks to NAFTA, if the Canadian government passes a bill that hurts big business, that company can sue the Canadian government. There’s a little bit of Canadian independence gone. Your right that Canada shouldn't try so hard not to be American, but if we had a government with enough balls to say no to the US we wouldn't have to worry.

Yeah, there's something to be proud of. Scab. Nice word. Fits you.

Rev, dude, was that an insult? You're assuming I'm offended by the word "Scab." I'm not. I relish every cent I take out of the pockets of unionised economic Luddites who don't know what a hard day's work is!

News flash buddy, the wall came down. Marxism's dead. Going on 16 years now.

Actually worker controlled unions are a product of western capitalism, not eastern communism. Remember Lech Walesa? He was a union leader of a western-style union. The communist government outlawed it. To this day the only legal union in China, to which every worker must belong, is controlled by the government. It is used to keep wages and workers rights to a minimum.

The unions we have here in the west are controlled by the membership. They are democratic. They are not controlled by the government. They came into being to keep workers from being abused by greedy business owners. Scabs like you are anti-democratic, Lawndart. You have the same attitudes and disregard for humanity as the bastards who used to sit in the Politburo. You are no better than Kruschev.

Once again somebody from the right exhibiting their ignorance of history and the facts, imagine that.
