Which Ontario? Getting off the plane in Toronto is a lot different than getting off the plane in Thunder Bay which has nothing in common with getting off the plane in Sioux Lookout.

Ontario was my first experience in the ROC many moons ago. I confirmed the stereotype of people being very busy, work/work/work, money, little fun, polluted, overcrowded, etc... At least in TO. The "multicultural" experience was positive in spite of these observations but I did find a huge US influence, coming out of Quebec at the time. I have been back there many times since and have not found much difference. Ottawa is of course one of a kind and strangely reminded me of Quebec City in regards to how dysfunctional its local economy operates -vs- the rest of it. <br /> <br />From the perspective of a Western Canadian for most of my life now, I have had to deal with issues of the TO based headquarter, which really has not been much different from having a US based central or eastern headquarter. People in California, Oregon and Washington often feel the same way. Everyone seem to think that we are pot smoking, hang lose characters that are not motivated enough for business. I think they are actually jealous and wish they could move here if they could handle 4-6 months worth of grey drizzle. <br /> <br />I have also come to fully appreciate that Ontario and Quebec politically run this country, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. The left/right swinging of the vote in BC or Ontario reminds me of the Quebec federalism/nationalism waffling: lots of hype, and little substance whatever side you are on. <br />

It's snowing in those places and the Green House gasses keep Southern Ontario warm. <br />

I think it produces a lot of corrupt politicans. Same for Quebec. And BC. And all of Canada I suppose. And the states. Wait, Alberta's politicans don't seem as corrupt - they're open about stealing from the people. <br /> <br />What I know about Ontario is what I've heard from people who have moved to BC. THey get here and say "Wow, what a slow, relaxed and fun lifestyle you have." Meanwhile, I'm from northern BC and just recently moved to Vancouver and I can't help but comment on how hectic it is here. <br /> <br />All a matter of perspective. And yes, everyone in BC IS a lazy, pot-smoking snowboarder. But that's ok, 'cause we can smoke a joint before a race and still bring home an Olympic Gold medal. So much for "not motivated enough for business".

   

Somehow I always found Toronto friendlier and more relaxed than Vancouver. I seem to be the only person on earth with that perspective <img align=absmiddle src='images/smilies/neutral.gif' alt='Neutral'> <br /> <br />I always thought Thunder Bay was a lot like Regina in the attitudes of the people there and the general pace of things. <br /> <br />I always found the small towns in NW Ontario to be pretty much like small towns anyplace. <br /> <br />The only times I've been to Ottawa as an adult all I did was work, then go eat, fall asleep, get up and go back to work. Three trips there as an adult and I couldn't even tell you if it's changed much since we lived there when I was a kid.
