This happened in Regina Tuesday (29 November 2011).

Here is what the owner said:

So my time almost came to an end this morning... I'm very lucky to be
alive.

I had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and
over night the truck filled with the gas. I noticed the smell, and opened
the doors to air out the truck. I drove the truck out of the garage to get
some more air movement. I went to roll the pass side window down and as
soon as I touched the power windows. BAM - with me in the truck. I lost all
hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. All
things considering, I'm alive.

and...

Transporting an acetylene bottle inside a passenger vehicle! What an idiot! I sure hope his insurance does'nt cover the damage.

Yes, could have been a Darwin contender.

My first thought exactly!

Holy crap!

Lucky to be alive is an understatement. Why would someone be carrying around a bottle of acetylene in their vehicle anyway?

Had to chuckle about his licence plate though, "TNKA TY" And the touching pic of him giving his truck a final hug.

+1 on that. Any compressed flammable gas, if you must take it in the trunk of a car or hatchback or something, you never leave it there anly longer than needed.

Nobody got hurt here. And he didn't set that container to leak on purpose. That's the difference - seems pretty obvious to me. If he had purposely done this to somebody else, you can bet your ass he would have been charged.

-1 on that. Transporting compressed explosive gas in ANY manner other than an upright and secured position is..well there's just no excuse of any kind to do it.

I didn't actually neg rep you, but let that be a warning young man

Meh. People have to get BBQ cylynders home, so I understand if they put them in their trunk or whatever. But yes, upright and secured. Windows open if in a hatchback.

But, you gotta do what you gotta do. No need to be any more unsafe than needed.
