It's just how biology works. The reason we have the immune system we do (for those whose ancestors are from Europe) is because they were farmers. Humans and animals trade viruses, viruses mutate, disease spreads, immune systems compensate. Relatives of survivors of the Black Death are more likely to be immune to HIV because their ancestors survived that plague.

Shrew. Bat. Pig. They all make us stronger, in the long run.

Just noticed that a lot of the riding bulls "PBR" have wrestler names (or names that could be)... The Undertaker and Skull Crusher are my favourites. 8O

Found this little gut yesterday. I knew what it was because, last year, I talked with a couple of researchers who were checking oak trees for their presence. It's a male Great Capricorn Beetle, not native to North America but since it's considered threatened, it's protected. Went extinct in Great Britain about 400 years ago.

Cute! Looks similar to a "Tar Sand" beetle from Northern Alberta. Freakishly long antenna, and 3 bumps on the feet.

Scientists plan the resurrection of an animal that's been extinct since 1936

This as fascinating as it is creepy...
