Amazing, after 50 years, Time still gives every reason to not buy their product.

How cool of them. :)

Time barely does full written articles anymore. Just captioned photo displays and easy-to-read graphics for the easily-bored & the hard-of-understanding. Hard to believe that this is the same magazine that set the standard for things like modern war journalism as far back as World War Two.

The award is for the most news worthy person - which is why Josef Stalin, Ronald Reagan, H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, et al also won the award.

Hell, even Donald Trump won the award in 2016.

You can like, love or hate Thunberg, but it's fair to say that she has had an outsized presence in the news this year.

DrCaleb @ Wed Dec 11, 2019 10:56 am

Everyone here seems to be talking about her. ;)

Thanos @ Wed Dec 11, 2019 10:59 am

If we're dealing in fantasy as a nomination quality, as with Thunberg's insistence that the world economy can be changed in a heartbeat to satisfy her generation, then why not name Game Of Thrones as person of the year? It received as much, if not more, talk and attention than anyone or anything else this, except maybe for the daily Trump circus of perversion. More importantly GOT's fanciful notions were a lot more realistic than Thunberg's understanding of, well, anything.

Hey she shares that honor with a lot of other people. Cool for her. I bet Hitler was as happy about this as she is. Oh I bet she doesn't know Hitler also received this honor in the 1930's.

I did.

The award is about who is the most news worthy, not who is the nicest person. ;)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Person_of_the_Year

$1:
Person of the Year (called Man of the Year or Woman of the Year until 1999)[1] is an annual issue of the United States news magazine Time that features and profiles a person, a group, an idea, or an object that "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year".[2]

Sorry, but Smeagol didn't influence anyone near as much as (for instance) Donald Trump did.

The little douchebag got this recognition because she's pushing an agenda and so are the jerks at Time magazine.

Hard to believe that Time was once the most influential media in the USA.

Fair enough. She was definitely the person who was:

$1:
“the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”

Sadly, this will be seen and used by some people as proof of the righteousness of their cause rather than what the award was really intended to be.

She could make her mark on the world by going back to school, get herself a masters in an engineering discipline and work to transform renewable energy into a truly viable proposition.

That would take some real effort though. Much more fun and profitable to guilt the old people into reacting to her whims. Get to meet a lot more nifty and cool celebrities that way too.

I'd just like to bend her over my knee and spank the autism out of her.

This is wrong, and yet I had a good laugh at this.

I guess I'm going to hell. Poker will be on Wednesdays.
