I can see that another election is looming on the horizon and someone's candidate isn't doing as well as hoped for.
So, in the spirit of fairplay allow me to say:
Game OnYou claim Mr. Trudeau had no controversies that he could control during his time in office. Well allow me to point a few of these non controllable phenomenon.
People Kind,
Elbow gate
$215,000 vacation that we all paid for.
Dressing up like some Bollywood dancer
Groping someone years ago and then denying it/then forgetting about it.
Violating conflict laws by visiting the Aga Khan and being fined for it.
Canonizing Fidel Castro as a remarkable Leader
Atwal
Two Nanny's for his kids and of course my favourite
The Carbon Tax
I could go on but, if you don't think Mr Trudeau had any control over these controversies then there's no way in hell you'll listen to what anyone else has to say especially if they happen to point out the foibles of our current PM. So I'll leave you with this thought.
Saying that Mr. Scheer is a lightweight and because of that he won't be elected is ridiculous. Canadians voted in the Lightweight Champion of Canada as the PM so, despite your assertions that Mr. Scheer won't get in because of that fault, I'd say he has a very good, if not outstanding chance of becoming our next PM,
.
Thanks for replying.
I believe that you are inferring that I vote Liberal, but I don't. And it is interesting what you find harmful to Trudeau's image. I could care less about any of those minor issues and I expect most Canadians would not be able to list any of them. What I find most harmful to Trudeau is the pipeline controversy which is a problem he did not create and which forces him to side with the oil industry. This hurts him with many voters who are hostile to big oil and its associated projects. Another issue is the elephant across the border and the flood of refugees fleeing the US. This was not particularly well-handled by Trudeau who actually seemed to encourage refugees to come to Canada.
Like you I could go on with issues that have harmed Trudeau's image. However, the key thing is that despite a number of errors and missteps handed to the Conservatives Scheer has not managed to take advantage of any of them. He is stuck in the polls at about the same level as Trudeau and given the lack of popularity of the NDP and the way Canada's voting system works that probably means four more years of Trudeau.
You might want to read this article from the right-leaning National Post, which seems rather dubious of Scheer's chances.
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/he ... rs-in-2019What Scheer needs is a major issue that will grab the voters' attention. He might find one, but I think the failure of the Conservatives to select a more dynamic leader is going to hurt them. Me, I would have stayed with Harper.

Interesting, you allege you are a conservative, yet the lions share of the posts you’ve made would lead me to think you are a dipper...

Next, he'll tell you he is one of them " Oh, I'm in the middle, a real centrist."

Only thing I can write about Scheer - every time I see that fake condescending smirk on his puss, I want to wipe it off. It's an irrational reaction, but there it is.
Don't feel bad Doc, I have the same reaction when I hear the current PM speak.
But here's the thing Doc, now it's the Conservatives who'll have 4 years of Trudeau's screwups to focus their campaign on while there isn't really alot of things that Scheer has done or said that can be used as ammo in the upcoming campaign.
Which is likely why Trudeau said "If we run a positive campaign that doesn't feature attack ads and .... we treat one another with respect, and Canadians want to see more of that." while conveniently forgetting the 2015 campaign against Harper.
Maybe they'll trot out the Conservatives "he's just not ready" campaign again hoping it takes this time.

You bring up a good point; the reason Harper lost. Forcing women not to wear what Harper thinks it appropriate, the "Turn in suspicious Muslims" hotline.
Division doesn't work. Trudeau knows that. Scheer has yet to learn it.
Division works. However super overt division (i.e. Report Barbaric Practices Hotlines, etc) does not. We haven't learned to be sneaky with our divisive tactics.
Division doesn't work on those willing to challenge political viewpoints.

Flowery bromides about unity have proven ineffective as well as the TransMountain fiasco as shattered any illusion of unity this so-called nation has. Not that I believe that Scheer is that better an option. The man is too milquetoast for my liking.

+5 if I was still in the rep point business for that one sentence alone.

That's why you must vote for Mad Max.

GO MAX....Scheer is not a leasder. Not now, not ever.

It'll be a feel-good moment of a protest vote but that's all. Even if Bernier wins everything afterwards will still stay the same, the way it's always been after every single one of these illusion-shows we call elections.

If that is a reference to my posts I find it highly irrelevant. The post is about Scheer's lack of leadership qualities; not my political leanings. And BTW I did not claim to be a conservative.

I'd have +5'd him for using 'milquetoast' in a sentence.

Don't come in the kitchen if you can't take the heat, friend. My observation is based on the fact you claim to have supported Harper, and absolutely your political views are relevant. We call this "bias". Because you mentioned Harper I made an inference as to your political leanings, if this offends you- we don't have a safety circle.
I'm one of the inmates you were warned about...
