An excellent winter time dish.

Greek Stew

3 lbs stewing beef
2 1/2 lbs onions
salt and pepper
1/2 cup butter
1 6oz can tomato paste
1/3 cup red wine
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 clove garlic grated
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 dozen cloves
1/4 tsp cumin
2 tbsp raisins

Cut the steak into bite-size pieces.
Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in steak to coat. Add salt and pepper to
taste. Layer the peeled onions on top.
Mix the wet ingredients and spices and pour on. Drop bay leaf,
cinnamon
stick, raisins on top. Simmer 3 hrs.

How the Hell can you call it "Greek" when you don't have even a hint of lamb, sheep or mutton in it, never mind the lack of olive oil??? Just as well you could call it Russian stew or Denmark stew or.........

Don't need one. I was the Stewed Yankee Pie Last month lol. Indeed I like your recipe posted and will try it. It is hard to find a good stew recipe down here. Seeing as I'm in Vegas and Mutton is available here cheap, I'll take Hyacks advice for a meat swap.

Any meat will do. I used lamb once and it was very good.
