Stop by Winnipeg in your explorations too, RS. It's a cool city...the Paris of the Prairies.

Oh Rev, did you refer to WINTERpeg as the Paris of the Prairies?......... XD Oh that's right, the "Tower" gets a little hidden by the blowing snow..........ROTFL

Define important though. You never know how important a story is because you don't know how it affects individual readers. You can do a lot of important work and never know it. I'm guessing that if you're getting published regularly enough to make a living in genre fiction you've done something that was important to somebody.

That's the thing; While I've been continuously published since I started, I have yet to have any significgant amounts of pure prose published (My only short story published was in a small horror mag, years before I got serious). The game stuff I've written has been story oriented, but it's still basically technical writing. The prose had to be justifed in the context of game rules. The articles and journalism have been published both in and out of the game industry.

I learned the discipline to finish a novel-length work in writing RPG books, which is helpful, but I'm glad to be free to work on other things. So, no- I haven't been in Asimov's yet, and unless you're a gamer, you're unlikely to have heard of me. I'm working on it though. :)

Welcome RS. Consider this your welcome from the youth members of the board (I think there is only like 5 of us). Not saying that people like Rev and RH are old....
If you come to BC, you gotta check out my little city. Especially in the summer. A lake on either side of town and a channel you can raft down going from lake to lake. Welcome. Enjoy!

Thanks!

Might even get some inspiration for a new book here

I'm sure it will work out that way and I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait.

Hey DMP. Is 28 old? I still consider myself a youth. Well, I still act like one. It's in my family. We never grow up. I guess thats why I took animation, you get to be a kid the rest of your life.

I've never figured out how fiction writers do it, actually. When I go through the Writer's Markets I think, "Glad I write non-fiction."

Technical writing can make a difference though. I know a safety manual I co-wrote ten or twelve years ago has saved at least one set of eyes and quite possibly one man's life (he didn't read the manual but his staff did) and that's just from people I know personally within that company.

Judging by what I've heard lately about games developing general work and life skills, I'd say that your writing is probably important to somebody.

I'm not a gamer. I'm pretty sure I'll hear of you though. The thing about writing is that if you're good and keep at it, you'll make it. If you're getting published and making money, then you're most likely good and you seem willing to keep at it.

Actually, I already have heard of you. Right here. 8)
