Not a chance, unless we had huge numbers of people who were involved in such a strategic vote, would I trust that method of voting; how do you know how your neighbor is voting? I think the best method is to vote for something not against. Polls say alot but are they true, how many people do you know that really say who they are voting for; it nearly killed me to come right out and say it on this forum, never have I ever revealed who I was voting for,and most people are the same; it is secret just like the ballot. So vote your conscience IMO. I still believe the NDP has the best chance to form a minority gov and that with Harper continuing his crazy talk alot of people will look to the NDP. That is where I am putting my vote this election, next time maybe CAP if they can get it going, and I hope they do.
Thanks for the response, perhaps you can give me some advice. I live in the Victoria riding and I support the NDP, but I think our Liberal MP, David Anderson, has done a great job. What you do in my position: vote for a good MP from a party I don't support, or for an unproven candidate from a party I do support? I'm 80% sure where my vote is going, but I'm just curious what others would do in my position.

Your vote means allot to the CAP. Anderson will win again anyways so your vote to CAP will mean more than tossing it to him. Side note - Skinner like most CAP candidates has been given the cold shoulder by the media including being refused to speak at all candidates meetings live on air.
Well, yes and no. I usually vote for the candidate who best represents my views. This time, I don't know any candidates, and none are incumbents. So have to vote for who p's me off less.
I saw an interesting documentary on Global, Saturday I think. It was about how bad partisan politics has gotten, and how an MP's hands are tied if they try to do the 'right thing' ie: vote with their constituents in mind rather than tow the party line. If they go against the party, the get blackballed for comittes and the like, and have no chance of the good jobs, like cabinet. If they don't move up, they can't help their ridings. Catch 22.
THe vote on compensation of Hep-C victims was the main example. Most MPs knew what they were doing was wrong, but they had to do it anyway.
It just makes me sick that Parlament has been twisted to such an old-boys-club that it doesn't meet the intention of why it was created.

[/QUOTE] I would probably go with the NDP candidate, just because we do have a party system which will probably have more of an effect than the candidate's personal goals. It also depends what you mean by unproven; can you look at what the NDP candidate has done elsewhere and draw some conclusions based on that?
I too would look at the NDP, their platform is solid for the most part, call up your NDP candidate and have a chat, ask him specifically if he believes in the platform, tell him you will hold him accountable; as for the Liberal with a record, we have seen so many of them jumping ship, how do you know, also he will be forced to tow the party line, which if I read you right, doesn't hold your vision.
I'm in Victoria too, and in a rather similar position. I voted already, and went with the NDP. Now I wait and see how it all comes out. But I would have prefered to have a system where I could vote for 2nd and 3rd choices, as in some systems of proportional rep.
Yes, we need proportional representation, I hand delivered my 1600th flyer today for Fair Vote Canada in the Edmonton-Beaumont riding where I live . We need 100% free votes in Parliament so that our rep.s can actually vote their consciences or else we need government by referendums or a combination of the two.
Well we discussed it when our kids came over, how to do the "anyone but Anderson" vote.
We did split 50/50 between the NDP and Conservatives, but finally decided to do the family vote for the conservatives to try and have someone in the government who would actually work for the area.
Liberal Free I am shocked at the logic you are describing, ...well we might end up liberal free, but if the cons get in I doubt if, We will be FREE.
Why do the mice keep electing the cats?
Hoser, I don't know if you were tongue in cheek.
I certainly would not advise my family on who to vote for and trust their intelligence, and if they want to vote for the current crooks and thieves, well that's their right, but I thought that the "voting strategically" needed a reply.
Personally, I recently listened to Dr. Tomothy Ball on CKNW. Dr Ball absolutely and totally destroyed David Anderson's credibility on environmental issues.
Dr. Ball is a world renowned climatologist recently retired to Victoria and now goes up and down the Island, in high demand as an environmental consultant, seniors advisor and motivational speaker.
In short, according to Dr. Ball, David Anderson does not know of what he speaks, uses bogus data to support bogus claims and has no support from the scientific community, other than those researchers paid by the current government.
I think I would rather vote for someone who lives on the same planet as I do.
Actually, Hoser is a rank, it's whelan here; but the point you made was that you were chosing between the NDP and Cons and that your family decided to go with a Con vote, which is totally your perogative; at this point we are still free.
Anderson I assume is the NDP and you can't live with his stance, so you made a tough choice; my point is that one, was there no other choice, as in Greens or CAP; second, chosing Cons, if they form the government, will take away our freedoms from that point forward. IMO Harper is going to sell us out faster and more boldly then Mulroney did and we have much to fear from his secret policies...much to fear! If you have noticed none of the Con candidates can voice there own opinion, what does that tell you? Recently in Alberta they don't even show up for debates, how could they, if they can't speak!
I still believe that voting for the NDP is the best bet, as they stand FOR something rather than the other two that stand against; the people, freedom, healthcare, and each other and the only thing the Libs and Cons are jointly standing for, is the sell out of this country!
David Anderson is the Liberal MP for Victoria, also the Minister of environment and responsible for shoving the discredited and debunked Kyoto Accord in the faces of Canadians.
Did you know that the millions spent on advertising this hokum is almost equal to the money saved on shutting down the Canadian climatic and environmental reporting stations, the same stations that were disproving the Kyoto data?
Did you know the NDP still thinks the Kyoto accord is a good thing?
Just one example of hundreds, the UK loves the accord; they are not reducing pollution, instead, they get points under the Kyoto accord for shutting down their coal mines, placing their well paid union coal miners out of work. Poland has a lot of high sulpher coal, but as a developing nation, is exempt from the Kyoto requirements, and is happy to sell their coal to Britain. The end result, more pollution going into the skies from coal generating plants than ever before.
The Liberals and NDP thinks this is good??
Germany faced major losses into having to shut down old and dangerous nuclear power plants in the former East Germany. They now also love the Kyoto Accord since they now can shut these plants down and again get points to offset their coal fired generating stations they now can keep on-line.
The Liberals and NDP think this is good??
The EU signers of the accord are laughing all the way to the bank.
