$1:
The second man to be elected president of the United States, John Adams, wrote that "democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide."

If Fukuyama was overly optimistic, Adams perhaps erred on the side of pessimism. After all, the United States has elected 42 successors to him and still claims to be the world's greatest democracy.

And yet, in the race to be the 45th president, Donald Trump is waging a populist campaign fueled by anger, which threatens his country's democracy as much as Shinawatra and Duterte do theirs.

When will people get it through their head The USA is a Republic run on democratic principals. The rights of the people are not granted by the Gov. but are supposed to be upheld and enforced by the Gov. Now with that said WHO is the one trying to destroy the USA and it's citizens rights?

You're right that Americans who support Trump are angry. We've fucking had it with the fucking left and either we start to roll back the bullshit of the left or we'll rip it down, tear it up, and shove it up their asses!

You fuckers always scream about how you want a revolution?

This is what a revolution looks like!

So instead of replying to my post you want to rag on my spelling. Wow attack on dyslexics is strong with this on. yet this time I can actually blame spell check. LOL

Now if you feel you can actually make an intelligent reply then do so. IF all you have is the ability to attack someone's spelling then you are once again showing prof on how the LEFT has no substance just attempts at always blame and ridicule of others to cover you lack of a true stance with any substance beneath.

You just trotted out the usual canned, nit picking reply, doesn't advance the conversation one bit. Notice the writer said "threatens democracy" not "threatens the democracy that is the country of USA." But I guess if you think there's no democracy in the US, not much point continuing the conversation, since it doesn't seem to worry you. I mean "nyah, nyah, we're not a democracy," doesn't seem like much of an argument in this context.

Plenty of people without dyslexia write principal when they mean principle. Sign of our educational system, so I doubt it has anything to do with dyslexia.

AndyT read the above VERY carefully he does say it.

andyt @ Fri Aug 05, 2016 1:37 pm

He says the country has democracy, not that it is one. Your argument is just irrelevant, unless you're really claiming the democracy in your country could never be subverted. Seems your founding fathers disagreed with you. You're just picking nits because you have nothing else to add to the conversation. Like people reassure themselves that they're not racists because Muslim isn't a race. Still makes them hate spewing bigots, but if retreating to that trope makes them feel better about themselves, so be it.

So if I have your argument straight, no matter who you elect as president, it could never be a threat to democracy in your country, because you don't have any anyway?
