Rather have the book... found it used in mint condition.

Found a copy of Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter.

Sounds a bit like a weird one, since the tagline is, "a metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll". 8O

Has anybody here read this? Loved it or hated it?

I read that over thirty years ago when it was first published. I highly recommend as it is a sort of mathematical-philosophical hybrid.

You know, I should re-read it, now that I have three more decades experience behind me and a LOT more knowledge and practical experience of Baroque music (which I actively sing, now). Great read.

CCF Colonialism in Northern Saskatchewan: Battling Parish Priests, Bootleggers, and Fur Sharks, by David Quiring - for academic and professional reasons. The Atlantis series by Bob Mayer for brain candy. Finished Saint Odd by Dean Koontz.....really disappointed in its ending. a REAL letdown.

Just finished re-reading Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. Undoubtedly one of Canada's finest writers. Beautiful prose and intriguing plots and world building.

Re-reading "Lamb; the Gospel According To Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore. Probably for about the 5th time.

Hilarious and insightful. Should be required reading for all religious people.

Got a stack of Yukoner Magazines from a friend who's uncle had been a subscriber and had passed away. Fascinating tales of Dawson City and the travails of life in the Yukon.

A friend of mine is the mayor of Dawson City, or more appropriately the younger brother of a friend. He just won re-election for a second term
