Or is it just failing? Today we break down some of the various definitions of a “failed state” and try to work out how the USA rates against them. And why it matters, even to non-Americans.

Not a failed state but facing several serious problems, e.g. how to keep a global coalition together to contain the CCP when globalism is unpopular at home, Belt and Road is making headway across Eurasia and illiberal democracy is on the rise.

The ironic thing that Republicans don't seem to understand was that America's Golden Age was when taxes were high and they were more internationally focused, leading the Free World in the 1950s and 60s.
US decline started after Reagan destroyed the social safety net, massively increased US debt, and instituted trickle down economics which increased income inequality and gradually destroyed the American Dream.

Leftist writer and NDP candidate Linda McQuaig has been talking about this for years. She's repeatedly insisted that higher taxes and spending would go a long way towards resolving many of our issues.
Meanwhile, the conservative Jonathan Kay is reviled by leftist writers, and even he found many of the things McQuaig advocated in one of her latest books quite reasonable.
Makes you wonder just how much consensus there is out there for some broad policy reforms. I've had right-leaning business owners tell me how much they'd enjoy a simplified, streamlined tax system that would free up more of their time, while leftist activists talk about how such a tax system would actually raise more money with all the loopholes that would be eliminated.
And even Richard Nixon did things like reduce segregation and create the Environmental Protection Agency. Go figure.
