Why Is Conservative Comedy So… Not Very Good?

Simply? Traditional comedy punches up. Conservative comedy too often punches down.

Also, proper humour involves a degree of self-deprecation, and righty humour is too musty for that.
A kid is walking down the street with his dad and they walk by a panhandler. The kid says "Dad, why didn't you give that guy any money?" The Dad says, "I tell you what, when we get home you can mow the lawn. I'll give you $5, and you can come back and give it to that guy." The kids says "Why don't you just offer the guy $5 to mow the lawn?" The Dad says "Son, welcome to the Republican party."

What will happen is that Republicans won't understand the joke and to hide the fact, will replace "Republican" with "Democrat" and think it's hilarious.

My two favourite teams are the Canucks and whoever's playing the Loafers.

Humour is like bread in the soviet union, not everyone gets it.

A Russian co-worker would translate Russian jokes to English and tell them to me. I understood maybe a quarter of them and found about a quarter of those to be funny.

They were too busy eating each other to have 'bite' maybe?

It was always amazing that Dennis Miller went to the right. He is genuinely funny. But there's no way anyone who isn't a centrist or liberal gets his humour, not when it's thoroughly flecked with historical references that requires at least a half-assed education & attention to current events to understand. Seeing Dennis cross the line after being horrified by Sept 11, 2001, and then going as far as to defend the likes of Glenn Beck during his stand-ups, was very disappointing.

I can't help but think that somehow polarization plays a part in the bad humour. Could it be that trying to justify your effects on society somehow blinds the far right to the little things in life that also make it funny? Or does the inability to laugh at yourself lead on to the far right?

Tribalism
1: The organization, culture, or beliefs of a tribe.
2: A strong feeling of identity with and loyalty to one's tribe or group.
3: The state of existing in separate tribes; tribal relation or feeling.
A state of loyalty overrides reason and humour. As to the chicken and egg of your question, does it matter as the end result is the same? Zealots.

Yeah that was sad. He was a very smart comedian, but obviously 9/11 broke him and then he became the court jester at Fox News.
