Soo I am thinking of getting myself a birthday present. 8) I found ridiculously cheap flights to Puerto Rico in April. Has anyone been there before? What are good places to eat, dance, swim, can I surf? Anything that you did and thought. Damn. That was wayyy worth it!

I've been and it was fine. Pretty much the same as all the other little islands down there. Baccardi rum tour was my highlight. I like more city with my beach so I may not be the best travel guide.

I was stationed at Ceiba when the Roosevelt Roads base was still active. It's bloody humid and mold grows on everything that isn't in direct sunlight.

As for food? Pretty much any place with 'Cocina' in the name is going to be interesting. Health standards in 1988 were good and they're reportedly better these days so feel free. Street vendors are typically pretty safe, too. My advice is to be daring as there's lots of interesting fusion cuisine on the island.

Swimming is to be avoided after any serious downpour as there's still parts of the island where the storm runoff will include raw sewage.

No idea on the surfing as I never did any of it.

Hehe. So. anything you say that has "cocina" Written on it should be interesting? I hope so, cocina does mean "Kitchen" ;)

And ah gross. I have no desire to pull a "Jackass" moment in swim in sewage! Ill avoid that.

Thanks Bart :)

First day there we did the Bacardi tour as well, first night there I received a self inflixed concussion watching those Purto Rican women shaking their butts Salsa dancing. When my head finely hit the pillow that night it felt like one of those bobble head dogs you see in the back window of some cars.

Old San Juan made me want to dress up like a pirate, it's a pretty cool place and worth at least an afternoon or 2. arrrr

After driving around and seeing the steel bars on all the windows and doors of Joe & Jane San Juan's houses, we spent our nights in our hotel which was the largest casino on the Island, we didn't feel safe going anywhere at night. There was a small beach there but never seen any that I'd call fantastic.

Oh, and sitting out having a smoke in the horse shoe shaped driveway of our hotel, watching the Limo's arriving and dropping off all the beautiful people for a night of gambling and dancing, a guy came up to me trying to pimp out what looked like 2 underage girls.

So i found it a little geasey at night but a beautiful place during the day.

I will definitely be checking out the Bacardi tour...Wont say no to a booze trip! :D

When you say you were watching the woman dance...is it in puerto rico where they have the head slamming in the girls ars dance? Hahaha Thats all I am picturing right now.

Love a good pirate town!

I have found that most places Ive visited. Its best to get off the grid! I would like to stay not at an all inclusive. Immerse in the culture and craziness of another place!

I've only been stationed at Air Station Borinquen PR. Pretty much when we went off we went to the Ex NAS Roosevelt Roads and Bart nailed it, although we did sneek over to the UK Virgin Islands a couple times to raid the RN.
