Gas prices and security lessons: What the U.S. pipeline hack means for Canada

Lemme guess, the short-term damage will be in Canadians paying an extra 30 cents a litre for the next two-to-four weeks, all thanks to a strictly American problem that doesn't affect our own country in the fucking slightest.

Gee, ain't the free market grand, when a fuck-up in one spot causes everyone everywhere else to pay through the fucking nose? Is this god-damned world ever not going to suck?

Maybe they will actually take seriously cyber threats? Two factor auth may actually catch on?

Oh, who am I kidding, we only just this year migrated from windows 7.... *sigh* at least they don't tape the passwords to the workstations now that they have to work from home.

They keep the control systems for ballistic nuclear missiles operating on old technology and completely isolated from online activities for a reason. At some stage in our monumental breakdown in civility & social responsibility into complete lawlessness it might be a good idea to do the same thing with other critical parts of the continental infrastructure. Like pipelines. And hospitals. And electrical grids.

Ah, what am I saying. It'll stay this way, with the bogus promise of safety from the owners & operators, even when something gets hacked and a half-million people end up dying as a result. COVID hasn't changed anything and everything will be back to it's previous fucked-up normal sooner or later.

Of course it will - prices in Alberta jumped 15 or 20 cents per litre when Katrina devastated the Gulf refineries, even though Alberta refineries were a-okay and still pumping 100% of their capacity.

That's the problem with an integrated energy market with the US - when they get hit by an earthquake, hurricane, or other natural disaster, Canadians get hosed even though our refining and extraction capacity remain untouched and stable. And as we've seen over the past 30 years, these events are happening more frequently, not less.

So open up your wallet and suck it up! :x

And yet again, gas made last week in Prince George BC from Alberta oil that was already in the station tanks INSTANTLY went up 7c a litre.
everywhere - at the same time.
OINK OINK OINK
Any excuse will work. There us no collusion.
