Disturbia Review

Being a fan of Alfred Hitchcock (this is an adaptation of Rear Window after all), I thought Id give this movie a shot.

Shia LaBoeuf stars as Kale, a troubled teen who blames himself for his fathers death in a car accident. He winds up with a 90 day house arrest sentence after hitting one of his teachers. As punishment, his mother (Carrie-Anne Moss) cuts off his I-Tunes and X-Box Live and he is forced to a life of doing chores and staring out his windows at his neighbours. He notices the fellow across the street is having an affair with his maid, some new neighbours have a hot daughter and argue a lot. One of his other neighbours is quiet and keeps to himself.

After watching the evening news, he sees his quiet neighbour (David Morse) driving the same type of car as one connected with a murder victim. He starts watching and sees a variety of disturbing things happening at his house and begins to suspect him of being a serial killer.

The story line is rather predictable, but the director does a good job of keeping the tension high and there is a fair bit of suspense. David Morse brought a lot of intensity and does a great job as the villain, while most of the other actors are more passable. Carrie-Ann Moss does a so-so job as Kales mother. On a humourous side note, there is a stretch in the film where the boom mic is in the picture. It had the audience laughing for quite a while.
