There Will Be Blood Review

Even though this movie has been out for a while already, it easily one of the most powerful and spellbinding movies I've seen in a long time (at least since No Country for Old Men [see this movie as well]).

The movie (directed by P.T Anderson) revolves around Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis), a former miner turned oil tycoon who strikes it rich in a small California town, and his son H.W.   Here Plainview begins to build his oil empire all the while becoming evermore consumed by greed and the thirst for power.

But his ambitions in California are not without problems.  After his son is deafened by a well accident he becomes an increasing liability to Plainview.  But even moreso than his son, Plainview's ambitions are constantly challenged by the local preacher, Eli Sunday, who is the embodiment of Plainview's two deepest hatreds, God and Man.

But that's as much as the story as I I'm going to talk about.  What makes this movie so entertaining an so scintillating is Daniel Day Lewis' performance.  He absolutely steals the show in every scene.  He conveys such a psychotic energy and drive, it's mesmerising.  Paul Dano (Eli Sunday), also does an excelent job acting as the check on Lewis' dominance in the town.

All in all, this movie is amazing.  The ending will shock you, but the journey will leave you speechless.  I cannot recommend this movie enough.  It's simply brilliant.
