That's $214 for the transportation though, Kevin. There are also hotel/motel/campground costs, transportation when you get to your destination, food and drinks...the list gets pretty long.

In my case I also have to either take four dogs with me, or find somebody willing to look after four dogs and three cats, usually as a live in kind of thing. If I take them it actually keeps expenses down, since only relatives and close friends will welcome somebody who is travelling with a zoo. The other option is leaving Mrs. Rev at home, but neither of us are fond of that option.
I suppose I need to start thinking about what tech we would need to make sure as many people as possible are involved in a GM.
H.323 teleconferencing. Perhaps we could set up several 'hub' sites, or use Netmeeting or some such. The hubs would need decent bandwidth.
I've a laptop I could set up for such an event. I could also get a wireless card for it and I already have a decent camera (video and still).
Pick a platform that can accomodate everybody!

I think for AGMs it would be great to have those people come who can to a central location in Canada, and also provide it online etc to those who can't be there in person. Then we have a nice mix of face-to-face interaction and the more accessible tech.
Rev, for volunteers, especially ones such as yourself who have been so dedicated, I'm sure we could find a way to budget to pay for your travel to a an important meeting like that.
But in the meantime we can set up the local meetings. I've suggested a topic to meetup and they've approved it. What this means is there is now a Canadian sovereignty topic and Canadian sovereignty meetings monthly across Canada and possibly the world. You just have to sign up to be notified.
Visit: http://canadiansov.meetup.com/
I made it Canadian sovereignty rather than just Vive members because it's more inclusive and allows us to invite anyone who's interested in these issues.
I'll post this to the main page too, probably in a permanent block AND a site story.

One good policy that the Canadian Federation of Engineering Societies has is that their national conference is held in a different part of the country each year. It's a much better policy than having it in a 'central' location that is far from most people every year.

Ideally I think we would have about 3 simultaneous meetings with conferencing between them, one on the east coast/ontario, one central, and one on the west coast.

So, does this mean I'll be seeing you on the 6th? That day actually works well for me :)

FreeCanada @ Tue Mar 30, 2004 5:44 pm

Just registered on the meeting site. Great idea and I hope more people join soon!

Reverend Blair @ Tue Mar 30, 2004 8:55 pm

Ah, Toronto. I probably shouldn't admit this, being from Winnipeg and all, but everybody I met there was just like everybody I've met here. :) Welcome FreeCanada. If you (or anybody else) land in Winnipeg let me know.

Edmonton would be good for me. I would like to meet everybody but the constraints of earning a living for my family put the kibosh on that idea.

Jesse, by "central" I just mean having the meeting in one physical location. Doesn't exclude the idea of having it in a different place every year, and actually I think that would be assumed--that's how it's worked with any org I've been with.
The idea of having three simultaneous meetings is interesting. This may work best in terms of having volunteers and members have somewhere closer to go--I think I'd still want all actual board members together in the same place.
And PS re the Meetups--don't be alarmed it says that this month's meetup is cancelled. The topic just went online yesterday and the system has an automatic amount of people that have to be signed up a certain number of days before it will allow you to hold the meetups. We just need to keep adding members and then they'll start happening.
Which is why it's so important everyone signs up!
