sounds like a good idea!

Kory Yamashita @ Fri Mar 26, 2004 10:29 pm

Do most Vive frequenters live in the same area?

Reverend Blair @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 10:18 am

That's the rub, Kory. I'm from Winnipeg. Most here seem to be from points west of me. While I'd love to meet the people from here, it would require some travel.

Jesse @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 10:33 am

Sounds like there could be a decent sized gathering in vancouver, and possibly also one in edmonton and one in ontario(toronto??). It would all depend how many less-frequent visitors would show up.

Kory Yamashita @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 11:44 am

Toren, Poz, and I can meet at UBC!!! haha... well I'm only in Van until the end of April...

Poz @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 12:38 pm

Hey Kory and Toren... road trip  Or if numbers allow we could have group conference/webcam calls. Though meeting in person would be a good idea.

One idea we've discussed before, especially once we have spring weather, is using Meetup. This would allow us to organize informal meetings anywhere in Canada using online tools but meeting in person. The same tool was used for the Dean campaign in the U.S.
I don't want to make a decision on this until I know when the election is, though, and the general consensus before was that it would be best to wait for spring weather. (may or so)
Once we incorporate we will have an annual general meeting once a year as well in a central location.
The closest I could likely get is Edmonton, maybe Calgary.

KevinGagnon @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 3:15 pm

Well that counts out me, Edmonton and Calgary is a little too far for me in Ontario. That's o.k I'll send a video camera to you Susan ;)

KevinGagnon @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 3:25 pm

Winnipeg is as far as I would feasibly be able to travel.

[QUOTE BY= KevinGagnon] Well that counts out me, Edmonton and Calgary is a little too far for me in Ontario. It would ideally involve webcams and live chat, or equivalent tech. Anybody have other ideas on how to work such a thing?

KevinGagnon @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 5:20 pm

Jesse,
This is one option, however I'm not that familiar with it. You can check it out.
www.orbitalk.com
Or we can try paltalk. Maybe there's a Canadian website that offers a service like this, that would be nice. Kevin

People in Ontario wouldn't be expected to come to Edmonton Kevin--meetup allows us to organize several meetings wherever there are clusters of people. You would meet with other Vive members/readers in and around Ontario.

KevinGagnon @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 5:44 pm

I feel better now :D Although not meeting everyone across Canada is a downer

Reverend Blair @ Sat Mar 27, 2004 7:35 pm

This country is just too darned big...that's the real problem.

Travel costs are insane, and trying to find time for even two people to match schedules is pretty tough.

If anybody is coming through Winnipeg, let me know. We can have coffee or a beer or something.

Rev,

I'm going to Winnipeg in the summer. Taking a bus there. I had plans to take a trip. I had once thought of going to the U.S (maybe Las Vegas again). But I decided I would travel Canada instead. I only get two weeks off, so I decided to take a trip to somewhere close so I wouldn't have to spend most of my time off on a bus. At first I wanted to go all the way east or maybe west. But both of those directions would mean allot of traveling.

I finally decided to go as far as Winnipeg. I'm hoping to find tour guides to show me around. I'm also hoping to find the love of my life ;-)

Also speaking of expensive traveling cost. Greyhound bus has the deal for $214 anywhere in Canada or U.S. That's return trip. I know its hard to believe, but its for real. Its the same type of deal I used to go to Las Vegas two years ago.

Kevin
