I can't see the value in moving for an increase of 20% in my wage if my mortgage increases 400%.....

On another note, those remote location jobs with 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, do they fly you home to anywhere in Canada or do you have to relocate to Winnipeg, Yellowknife or Edmonton?

Housing costs are exaggerated unless you have a $400 mortgage

Yes, there are companies in FT mac who are chartering planes to fly people home to the maritimes.

BTW Winnipeg and Yellowknife are not in Alberta

I've checked and they aren't exaggerated if I'm looking for a similar home to the one I got.

Did you need to get the atlas out to double check? The question was really posed to ziggy who would know how those diamond and gold mines work their manpower in the territories.

They fly you anywhere in Canada at most camps. The guys coming from Toronto to erect a new coverall(tent type shop) are asking $4500.00 per day per man where im at.

An addition to the camp kitchen which was maybe 800 square feet cost $140,000 and that was tendered. A guys just got to get in there and most tenders are available in the northern kivallik papers if you buy a subscription. Once up there contracting a guy gets some contacts and can make some pretty decent coin.Theres another mine within 100 miles of us and it's going to start being built this year. RTL in Yellowknife also flys you anywhere in Canada.

As for houseing costs in Alberta lots of easterners and others live in trailers and motorhomes in the campgrounds, some stay a few years and then decide to move permanently or back home and some long enough to rent a place, its a good way to test the waters and I did it for a year and a bit out near Drumhellar country and it was a great time.I met people from all over Canada, made some great friends, watched people change from one outfit to another over beers after the nightly BBQ,saw raises and wages negotiated over the fire,it was great and I would do it again but this time my shack would have pop-outs. 8)
