Here's a slideshow from my CKA gallery, you can tell the Nunavut pics, they have no trees in them.
Zigs CKA galleryI confess - I've browsed your pics several time. They're absolutely amazing! Especially the northern lights and the sunsets... weak spot of mine.
Hence, the request for the tour. I'd love to trek up there just to see it all for myself. I'm a northern girl and just love that stuff.
Checked out the site too. Looks like a massive project. I'll be lookin' for more pics after you go back.
I'll have some good pics because in march I'll be clearing off one of the lakes so the big hercs can land to refuel and resupply the camp, dragging the drills around to sites, and takeing the cat on the 90 klik cruise across the tundra to skid stuff back to camp from Baker lake. Plus I get to do some mean snowmobiling and I'll be taking the fishing rod this time.

Soooo... you'll break the other ankle AND lose an eye?
Can't wait to see THOSE pics!
Ziggy,
I sent you a private message but do you think there would be any positions for a couple from Saskatchewan who are looking for work in a Camp either managing the camp or as housekeepers, kitchen, or janitorial staff? They would like to go into a situation as a couple, work for a few years for the big bucks and then come out. They are close to retirement age(60). Too old? Any use applying for work with Cumberland??? They are both business people with good records of self-employment in Saskatchewan. Any ideas? Or suggestions. Thanks Ziggy.

Sent you a PM but you should check out NUNA logistics. There straight north of Manitoba right now building road in Nunavut and will be there for awhile.Think the first camp just went in and theres 90 kliks of road to build.
That would be a good in for the mine when it gets developed.
That will allways be a fly in camp job with around 300+ people employed.
I dont know enough about the huge Uranium deposit discovered close to the gold deposit where Im at so not sure when something other then exploration will happen there.
Plus dont forget the diamonds,Canada's going to be a major player soon once all the mines come on stream. No blood on our diamonds.
Most Alberta camps are non union unless your in Fort Mac.

I might break something,we only have 1 truck and a quad for summer travel around the site so I mostly have to walk over wet tundra to go anywhere or take the machine. Good thing there's only a mile and a half of road right now.
This will change once the road is built and they can start barging some trucks up the Hudsons bay next year.
Could these people handle haveing a chopper slinging fuel drums over the kitchen and generally live in a place that resembles a scene out of MASH?
When its light out 24 hours they fly at all times.
Heres a vid I did while walking a d7 from my airstrip back to the fuel tank pad we were building. I was bored and just figuring out the vid features on my cam.A chopper slings fuel drums overhead and that pilot is also an aviation mechanic yet makes the same as a labourer up there,$23/hr. and $95.00 every day he doesnt fly. Dont know if it means anything but all of the pilots were french and from Montreal.

Here's another one I did while in the cab of the Cat,still figuring out the vid features. You can see why sometimes I prefer walking. Look closely and you can see the rock trucks with their box's in the air by the discharge hopper at the crusher, thats so the wind wouldnt blow all the fines into the lake.

A couple.. of friends of mine just stopped in on there way back from 3 weeks in Mexico. They have a 'camp job' right in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.
Pay is $9,000 per mo. They bought a 5th wheel and quite enjoy life there. He is 61 and she will be 59 in a month.
They take care of the general maintenance. Keep the walks clean, yard work and such. She said they only really work 3 hrs per day. There is always ads in the Edmonton papers for camp attendants.

You could allways apply for a job there. Should be good for 8 years minimum once they start mining gold.Plus they fly you from anywhere in Canada return. My flights cost about $2700.00 one way and its paid for.
Put in a good word for me Zigg I'm currently looking for work.
Thanks YOGI, I'll check out some of the Alberta papers if I can get into their classifieds without a subscription. Problem with my friends is that they aren't online. How sad eh?
Not sure how you live life offline?

try edmontonsun.canoe.ca
saturday & sunday issues have the most extensive ads
or i can send a couple of copies via 'snail mail' to a po box if u pm me. I am going thru edmonton tomorrow on my way to Peace River for a couple of days and I will pass by one camp company that I know of and see if I can get some ph #'s for u
Thanks a bunch YOGI. They are very interested in this "Camp Work" and I'm finding very little online to apply for? Don't quite know where they advertise those positions or if they do? If you can get me some phone numbers for that Camp that would be awesome.
I will check out the edmontonsun.canoe.ca and thanks for the tip.
I spent quite some time looking at the Classifieds in the two Edmonton papers this afternoon. There are many jobs, but no "camp" jobs advertised and the wages offered are very low. $10/hr...40 hour week? Where are all these highpaying jobs they brag about? Hardly worthwhile to move to Alberta from Saskatchewan to take a job as nightclerk in a Hotel for $10 to $12 bucks an hour. You'd starve.

Stopped by yesterday and one fellow told me to come back on monday and talk to the 'office staff'. I should make it back before they close tomorrow or will get ther tuesday a.m. He also told me about another camp co. to check out.
Thanks YOGI. You are a prince.
I am a bit stymied by the fact that when I enter "housekeeping/janitorial" in the HRDC Job Bank site I get back e-mails for jobs all over Alberta for "housekeepers." I waded through endless jobs that did not pertain in any way to what my frirends are looking for. Anyone got any idea how to differentiate wanting a job in a "Camp" doing housekeeping/janitorial vs in Calgary or Edmonton in a private home or group home situation?
My people are interested in going in as a "couple" to help operate one of these smaller camps(20 to 50 workers)? Or, at least to help as in "kitchen help" or "janitorial help"? Anyone with any ideas that might help me would be appreciated.

Try typing in "camp" or "cook" for keywords. That's what I tried and got no hits for housekeeping.
Be specific,it match's words in your job application to any matching words in any ads put up.

I know a guy who has worked at camp jobs in Alberta and Ft. St. John for the last few years. He seems to like it, and he was able to get my brother a job quite easily so they must be always looking. The company is Royal Camp Services LTD.

I think I got a 'live one' for u saskanna. i don't know why i didn't think of this before. I typed in the co name- PTI GROUP and added .com and voila! check out ptigroup.com They DO have all kind of listings and openings. I didn't go in to see but they definitely are looking for people.
I'm going to 'check out' a couple more names I have, the same way. I have also sent an email to my friends in tumbler ridge to get the name of the outfit they work for.
