Where do you work
Ziggy, this is so interesting. I think you should be posting a running diary of your time up there. I am sure learning a lot here and in job hunting for this couple. Talking to lots of people working in these "boom" areas. Oh, to be young again. I"d head up there tomorrow!
Take advantage and go everywhere and see everything you can while you are young enough to enjoy it. Good luck to you.

I am new here and for one wanted to introduce myself. So hello. Well know that I got that out of the way I am wondering... I live in central Alberta and everyone I know works in the Oilfield either rigpigs or wire whiners and I am just wondering where do you work and are you worried what will happen when the oilfield slows down. Which we all know is going to happen eventually.
I work for an investments house in London but will be moving to our new office in Toronto in the next few months. Anyone familiar with Yonge Street?
Regina @ Mon Feb 05, 2007 11:23 pm
I was driving on Yonge St. last week...........freeks and geeks when the sun goes down! Think it's also the longest street in Canada as well. Anyone care to guess where it starts and finishes?
Brenda @ Tue Feb 06, 2007 12:22 am
Isn't it 1761 (or so
) kilometers long? I thought it was not even the longest street in Canada, but even in the world?
When did Toronto move to Alberta?
Try the "Ontario" thread!

Back to the ATCO camp issue....
Believe it or not, I'm employed by the ATCO Group. I was with ATCO 6 years ago and did not enjoy my time in Bosnia with ATCO but they seem to have gotten their shit together so I came back and I'm really impressed so far.
Mind you, this is a different ATCO branch (ATCO Europe, which still answers to Alberta).
ATCO and NATO EUFORSpeaking of ATCO they have a huge amount of job openings in Calgary, Edmonton, and many other places. Not like this is a surprise. I guess a big decisions is, do I want to move back to Alberta. Maybe I should have stayed. When I left edmonton in 2003 my rent was 495 for a nice size apartment downtown Edmonton. I'd probably have to pay 600-700 now. Still better than Calgary. Unless there is someone in Edmonton looking for a roomate.

Wasnt long ago they had openings in Afghanistan,it was mostly camp and airfield maintenance for the military.Lots of weed control and brushing around the airport so no one could sneak up on them.
Long tour though,it was months before you got to head home.

We should have a jobs forum, where people can post their job ideas and info. Sometimes networking like this is more beneficial than job ads. I certainly have gotten some good ideas about jobs and such. Thanks Ziggy.

Good idea, its been a hobby of mine to cruise the want ads for the last 25 years just to get a feel of whats happening out there and plus I get itchy feet sometimes. Where I live you either work in the mine or move so I know people all over Canada from my hometown, contacts are good as about 90% of jobs are filled by word of mouth.
Lots of employers are starting to use the HRDC site and thats a good thing, they have to for some of the govt. programs for hiring out of country workers.
You know theres jobboom and monsterjob.ca and lethbridgejobshop.ca and I have more info on jobs in the industrial part of Alberta then all of them put together.
Not sure if I gave you the link to
United safety yet.
These folks do a lot of the oilfield training here, thats who I got all my tickets from and their allways looking for safety guys.
Cool awesome pic.

Yonge St starts in Toronto, at Queens Quay and ends in Barrie, at Minet's Point Road.
Hwy 11, however, Runs from Toronto to Rainy River, on the Minnesota border
