Kind of a situation peculiar to BC. If the eco votes and "the youth" were that significant then BC would have had a Green government about 25 years ago. I'd like to think that, considering this sort of magical event never even comes close to occurring no matter how much it gets boosted by its supporters, that the media someday would stop reporting it as inevitable with the usual "oh yeah, it's happening for sure this time".

'Not illegal': Ousted B.C. NDP leadership candidate speaks out

$1:
On Wednesday night, B.C. NDP leadership candidate Anjali Appadurai was disqualified from the race, clearing the path for the coronation of her competitor, David Eby, who will become the province's premier.

After an investigation, Appadurai was disqualified for allegedly having "engaged in serious improper conduct'' by working with third parties for membership drives on her behalf and for allegedly soliciting "fraudulent memberships."

Appadurai says her removal was a political hit job and that the NDP was threatened by her team's ability to out-organize her opponent.

Horgan blasts Greens and eco-activists on his way out, calls them little better than thugs.....

https://vancouversun.com/news/politics/ ... the-future

$1:
This is not how John Horgan wanted his five years as premier to end.

Instead of cruising into retirement touting how he maintained record-high popularity levels despite devastating wildfires, unprecedented floods and a global pandemic, Horgan has been forced to defend his party after a fractious B.C. NDP leadership campaign named David Eby his successor after disqualifying the only other candidate.

Instead of reflecting on how, in the face of a nail-biting seat tie with the ruling B.C. Liberals in the 2017 election, he reached a historic deal with the B.C. Greens to form government, he’s been driven to anger over what he called the “thuggery” employed by members of that same party who, in his view, tried to take over the NDP and install a climate activist as the next premier.

That anger, a flashback to the “Hulk Horgan” persona that would make an appearance during his three years as Opposition leader, rose to the surface again Thursday when Horgan was asked a pointed question about whether the B.C. NDP executive membership list is made public.

As backlash grew from grassroots New Democrats frustrated that the party executive disqualified Anjali Appadurai from the leadership race over alleged rule breaking and fraudulent membership signups, Horgan said the 41-member executive, a diverse group of volunteers from all over the province, had been “inundated … by Green party members saying we want to take over your party.”

“They’re doing their job, they’re volunteers and they’re going to be abused by a bunch of people who cheated and want to get away with it. I can’t be more frustrated by that type of thuggery,” Horgan said before storming off.

Speaking about that with Postmedia News on Friday, Horgan said his ire was directed at environmental activists who use any means to advance their cause, such as the incident in February 2020 when environmental protesters with Extinction Rebellion converged on his Langford home and harassed his wife, Ellie.

“She didn’t know who these people were. She didn’t know that they were, in my opinion, hapless ne’er-do-wells. She was terrified. They traumatized her.”

Horgan said his wife of 38 years, who never wanted to be in the public spotlight, now “wonders if someone drives slowly down the street, whether they’re coming to our house.”

Appadurai, a 32-year-old climate activist, has said she was mobilized to challenge David Eby for the leadership by grassroots New Democrats fed up with the compromises the government has made to stay in power, including proceeding with the Site C megadam — a project Horgan said “sucks” when he was in opposition — and expanding the liquefied natural gas sector.

That, Horgan said, doesn’t justify breaking the rules.

“I would say to those who were trying, in my opinion, to take over a successful operation because theirs is a failure: Get lost. There’s five million people in British Columbia who know that life is about trade-offs and making sure we compromise to get progress. And that’s what I’ve been all about for as long as I can remember”

Eco-freaks are the exact mirror to the clowns on the right who engage in the same tactics. The average dipshit out there dumping milk on the floor of the grocery store or letting the air out of an SUV's tires have about the same IQ as the POS's on the right who were blaring their truck horns all night long down residential streets in Ottawa. It should be obvious to pretty much everyone by now, especially in BC where for decades they've been spiking trees in order to injure logging & timber workers. Look at those two little rich girl bitches who vandalized the Van Gogh painting in England last week as an example of how genuinely stupid these people on the hard-left really are - typical of pretty much anyone who goes to art school, thanks to their overly wealthy & indulgent parents, they don't have even a single brain cell to share between the two of them. All they're armed with is a colossal ignorance of the real world, which they've inexplicably managed to weaponize, combined with the dead-eyed self-assurance of the self-proclaimed infallible puritan.

I have no great love for Horgan, not after he tried to nuke Alberta with his unconstitutional shenanigans aimed at stopping the TMX expansion. But he's damn right about the Greens and the idiots that travel along with them. They're nothing but a cancer on the political system. That the national media, especially the CBC, refuses to ever examine the environmental movement (or any of the creepy characters involved with it) with any sort of critical eye is a disgrace on Canadian journalism.

Horgan said he would ditch LNG and stop the site 5. <- HE RAN ON THIS.

He brought this on himself and is crying wolf. Sadly his record is deafening when it comes to the environment and mother earth isn't playing.

He changed his mind, how awful. Someone must've reminded him NDP is the 'workers' party and not the Greenies. and just pointed that out again.A more extreme Green slant wouldn't go well in an election.
Those people are just like Convidiots and Trumpoids, the just yell and act up to make up for their lack of real support.
LNG's probably too late to the game to get relly big, but listen to the whining and snivelling over EVs everywhere else in the world. Sure as hell won't have a problem in these parts w Site C, could even increase electric home heating if we wanted to.

The Greens are to BC what the Wildrose are to Alberta - both groups know damn well that they're incapable of every winning a government on their own, because the overall population isn't insane, so they scheme and subterfuge much more successful parties in order to take over from within. They're electoral cancers that can't win fairly by themselves so their only option is to find an unwilling host body (Dippers in BC, PC's in AB) to use as a vehicle to take them to victory.

I know, shocking right but you dance with the one that brung ya. This is gonna burn the NDP. The grass roots and the disenfranchised are WHY he courted the green vote and it got him the office. Real politic is why he moderated his agenda but he did give the greens some concessions when he cobbled the minority together.

Now that he has a majority the big C takes him out just as he was getting started. BC was robbed. Now Eby has the helm and he is focused on housing and the economy. That's fine, he is supposed to tack to the centre but there is now going to be a breakaway part of the base that isn't green and isn't NDP but it will need to be dealt with and as the climate crisis continues to make headlines it will only gain steam and BC UNITED will be stoking it.

You forget there's been an election since he went pro-LNG, pro-Site C, and he won. Didn't hurt at all.
My buddy's in camp working on the pipeline right now.

The NDP climate action isn't as rapid and extensive as the uber-greenies want, but it's sensible. We have more than enough Hydro and will be able to ship LNG to others, which is better than them sticking with coal or oil. Plus there's the push to build multi-storey wood frame buildings, that's slowly catching on.

Inside the BC NDP leadership ‘trainwreck’

She got much more sign ups than I thought. She had a real shot at winning. Good to see Eby and her have made peace and although the mega projects won't be axed I can see old growth logging being outlawed for good and a reduction or even a cancelation of subsidies to oil and gas and a serious effort towards a viable green economy actually starting.

Who’s Afraid Of A Contested Election?

$1:
BC NDP leadership candidate Anjali Appadurai had the rug pulled out from under her. This week Mattea Roach is joined with Stuart Thomson, Jaskaran Sandhu, and Arno Kopecky to talk about how and why the BC-NDP ended up disqualifying Appadurai, leaving David Eby to be sworn in as Premier of British Columbia. Also, this week the backbenchers talk about the Federal handgun freeze that is supposedly the strongest action in a generation. We’ll see about that…

$50 billion in debt for her platform (cancel the dam/old growth), but the NDP membership DOUBLED because she ran. This is going to have a major course correction for the NDP and force them to have a platform that has action on green issues. It's pretty clear some peace offering will be done to mend the in party divide and try to keep on as many new members as they can but they don't want to leave BC United with a clear shot at the reigns.
