Going by the Alberta experience recently with the UCP leadership race I'd suggest that playing the game of mass sign-ups of new members prior to a leadership vote should be a disqualifying action for any candidate in any party. In fact I think there should be a federal law that intervenes in how the parties conduct themselves internally that bars them from doing cattle-call type sign-ups altogether for anywhere from six months to a full year before the leadership vote is held. There's nothing more certain to put a genuine crank or radical in control of a major political party than allowing last minute sign-ups of new members who are only now in the party just to get their favourite horse installed as boss. The Danielle Smith effect in Alberta should be proof enough that this is a very dangerous path for any party to take. So good on the BC NDP for doing this if this extremist far-left eco-freak in question has been playing fast & loose with existing party rules in order for her group to take over the party entirely.
Let her Run
^^ signed.
Shitty of the BC NDP to pull this stunt. If Eby is to be the next premier; better to make her a part of the party than cast her aside. If environmentally conscious voters can’t have a role in the NDP where are they supposed to go? The Greens and split the vote so the Liberals get back in again? Stupid.
Eby has all the personality of a Liz Truss. He has been quiet as a mouse on policy and has not been drawing any attention to him till now. He is exactly who the NDP want to replace Horgan with who was running the NDP from the right. Don't rock the boat when you are in power and this girl is doing exactly that. If she gets to run she has my vote on principal.
Seems more complicated and grungy of a situation than you guys are willing to admit. Third-party buying memberships to hand out because of why? The members or supporters of their group being too clueless to go buy a membership themselves or they've been disqualified themselves from membership for chicanery or misdeeds of their own?

That article cites the same dogwood issue David addressed in his video.
Gotta figure too that a candidate might be way too far into radical territory if an NDP organization does everything they can to disqualify them from participating. I didn't think that "too far left even for the BC NDP" actually existed but in this care it apparently does. Seems like kind of a prog version of someone who wants light at many matches as possible just to watch the world burn.
I don't think she's that radical an environmentalist. This smells like the party trying to ensure the coronation of David Eby. Like Scape said, Eby is in the same vein as Horgan politically so they don't want to rock the boat. Which is understandable to a point, but still shitty.
Appadurai comes off more as an actual leftist than anyone else in the party. She'd upset the status quo, and so she has to go.
I wasn't a fan of Eby's apparent acclamation, but Nathan Cullen wouldn't run.
As for Anjali, she broke the rules on signing up members and hiding expenses. Not that she wouldn't have been blown away in one ballot anyway.
It's all about winning elections, you don't run with an unknown.
Party in power doesn't want a rogue element in contention to cause problems/embarrassment and therefore increase the other side's chances of winning. Makes all the sense in the world. Learn from Alberta's massive mistake, BC, because the UCP letting a disruptor like Smith take control has done nothing but make the chances of the NDP winning the next election that much better with each passing bozo moment courtesy of the new boss.
Premier designate David Eby says B.C. NDP leadership acclamation 'not how any of us expected this to end'
Coronation confirmed.
Do you think any of her supporters are going to switch their votes to the Liberals over this?
They can vote for Eby and see some of their environmental concerns addressed, vote for Falcon and see none of them addressed, or vote Green and risk vote splitting most likely to see none of them addressed either.
It boilsdown to if you want to vote to get some shit done or vote solely to fuck thing up for everyone because you can't get 100% of your way. We're not Republicans here!
