fifeboy fifeboy:

What you do is set your timeline to fit your own agenda. I can hold a ten year old grudge, but they can't hold a 50 year old grudge which resulted from years (and not 10 years) of abuse. Poor old Icy, picked on by the bully boys on some southern Ontario reserve. If only those people would get over what "other" white people did to them, I would be respectful.

You sir, are the real-life definition of a facepalm. It's incredible the amount of times you need things explained to you before it absorbs in.

It's not about the grudge, fife...it's about how you treat people regardless of the grudge you may hold against them. They're more than entitled to hold a grudge as they have a brutal past in our Country but they have no right to take it out on me just as I have no right to take it out my beef on them.

I haven't taken out my anger on any First Nations person, EVER. It's not acceptable for me to treat Native people the way I was treated. I have never treated any person whether they're white, black or whatever in that manor regardless of how I've been treated and I never would.

You feel their actions and racism towards me are justified because of their past. Their actions aren't acceptable at all. Period.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Their treatment of him and his family is as inexcusable as the abuse some natives experienced at the hand of the Crown and the residential school system.

This just keeps the hatred and injustices going.....well whitey did it to me is not an excuse, just a few assholes threatened my family isn't reason to hate all aboriginals.

According to fife, their wrong is justifiable because of their past. They get a pass because my ancestors treated them poorly.

Would fife feel the same if his wife/sister or mother was run off the road because they were Caucasian?

To correct you (and others), I never said I 'hate' all Native people. The term I used was 'despise' (ask Curt, he has it bookmarked). I don't "hate" anyone or anything (besides the Montreal Canadiens :P ) I just have some strong negative feelings.

And you are the real-life definition of "can't read the English language." It's incredible the amount of times you need to read something before you absorb it. I never said that their actions were justified. I am not addressing them, I am addressing you. And there is no excuse for your hating any group of people because of the actions of a few. That's what I said. I also said that if you feel you have a grievance than Native people also have an excuse. So, back to night school for Icy. A few more English classes and you should be fit to post.

Ok couple of questions.

What exactly is a status card. By having one does it mean you get some sort of extra money. Is it like a ATM card each month a certin ammount of money is put into the account and you can use the card to get the money?

Are First Nations people considered Canadian or fall under certin tribal headings like here in the US.

Native Americans are not citisense of the US while on the reservation the fall under tribal Athurity. Best example of what I mean is that if we, the US, start a draft again all native americans are exempt. They can not be forced like an american citizen to join the military.

I'm sure I'm not explaining myself very well but I think you get the drift of my question.

raydan @ Sun Apr 21, 2013 5:54 pm

An individual recognized by the federal government as being registered under the Indian Act is referred to as a Registered Indian (commonly referred to as a Status Indian). Status Indians are entitled to a wide range of programs and services offered by federal agencies and provincial governments. Over the years, there have been many rules for deciding who is eligible for registration as an Indian under the Indian Act. Important changes were made to the Act in June 1985, when Parliament passed Bill C-31, An Act to Amend the Indian Act, to bring it in line with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and again in 2011 with the coming into force of Bill C-3: Gender Equity in Indian Registration Act.

Knowing which programs and policies apply to you may be difficult. Legislation varies across the ten provinces and three territories and so do the services available to Canadians in general and to Aboriginal people in particular. What you are eligible for depends largely on where you live.

Absolutely you did! Let's rewind, shall we?

You said:
$1:
he expects people who have been subjected to 5 to 7 generations of discrimination to just forget it and start to man up to his expectations.

and

$1:
but they can't hold a 50 year old grudge which resulted from years (and not 10 years) of abuse

Expecting natives to not target me because I'm white is too high of an expectation? Is that unreasonable?

By saying that, you're saying that I expect too much of First Nations simply because I expect them to treat me like a human being. I did nothing to deserve the way I was treated as a 9 year old boy or as a 23 year old man.

fifeboy fifeboy:
And there is no excuse for your hating any group of people because of the actions of a few.

And yet, you continue to defend First Nations treatment of white people because how dare we expect them to act any differently. How dare I expect Natives to treat me, as a 9 year old boy with anything but respect. I should expect to have people on ATV's try to run me off the road while riding my bike. Perfectly normal & expected...because I'm white.

I take it you opted out of the night school option :|

Nothing I said would indicate I think they have the right to be angry. What I said, I think for about the 5th time, is if you feel you can still hate because of a few "threats and insults" ten years ago, than you can't be upset about them having hard feelings about what has been done to them. But I suspect you still won't "get it" as that wouldn't fit your feelings of victimization.

And hell Icy, ask any cyclist about someone being run off the road by a motorized vehicle, and we still don't "hate all car and truck drivers.' Well, perhaps Chev drivers but not all car drivers.

Yes it is! My treaty kids get COLD HARD CASH $5 Canadian a year. It's even handed to them by a Mountie in Red Serge at a fine ceremony at the band hall, that's if they go. Otherwise it's mailed.

When did I say I was upset over them having hard feelings?

You won't find anything because I've never said that. You made that up.

I'm not upset with them over having hard feelings over what's been done to them. I never said I was upset over their hard feelings towards our Country. Get it? That's the second time you've been told and yet, you continue to repeat it.

Here's what I said again:

I am upset because of how I was treated. I was treated this way because I am white.

If Natives want to feel upset over how they were treated, rightfully so and it's fine by me....but please, leave me alone.

OK, if that's how you feel than I accept that. Just remember your words, that Native People are rightfully upset. I can go with that. Now if you and others could get over your fear and loathing, Natives would have somewhere to start with their problems.
