How freaking long do you guys wait for a dental visit?

Not long whatsoever! My wisdom tooth was aching, called a dentist I had never been too, and had it pulled that morning! Go figure.

You can't die from a toothache.

norad @ Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:16 pm

True, Scape, but PORK asked, and I answered. You can't die from losing your job either, although it's possible in the U.S., since working at GM means losing health benefits if you're laid off. IMO, the whole thread has been fucked from the beginning, even though I do know why it was started.

I own my own company and have 20 employees so unless i fire my self its gonna be hard to lose my job. And my company provide healthcare insurance for all of the employes yes it is expensive but I push that cost to the retailers and they push it to the buyers and the economy goes around. If I dont like the service my health care insurance is providing I can switch. Try not paying your taxes you go to jail.

Interesting. So what you're saying is that people (retailers and buyers) who will derive no benefit from your healthcare plan are the ones paying for it. And if they have no employer-provided plan and can't afford healthcare coverage on their own, they still foot the bill for you and your employee's healthcare. That begins to explain why 30% of American children have no healthcare coverage.

I'm not sure how you think the American system is superior to a system that provides coverage to 100% of it's citizens. Or how a sytem that pushes hospital costs of $400 - 1000/day directly to the patient is better than a system where hospital stays push little or no cost to the patient. But it does explain why GM pays 15 times as much for healthcare costs per vehicle if the vehicle is built in the U.S. instead of Canada. And it does explain why out of the 25 000 jobs G.M. plans to eliminate, none are slated for Canadian plants (of course it doesn't hurt that GM's Canadian plants have more productive workers - who might be more productive because they don't spend time worrying about hidden or uncovered healthcare costs).

If American healthcare costs are one of the significant contributors to GM's and Ford's recent losses, then what effect might those costs be having on the wider American economy - which for the last 4 years has been vaccilating between stagnant and declining.

BTW: my taxes AND my provincial healthcare premiums are deducted from my pay. That's a nice arrangement because: if I have to go to the hospital (2 times in the last 3 years) or I need an MRI (3 times in the last 7 years) I just go do it,... without worrying if my insurance covers the treatment or how much it will cost me for uncovered services.

No but you can sure wish it!

Another thought about our healthcare system is the % of our citizens that can get good care compared to the US. While many in the US may get much faster treatment, how many wait much longer then people in ours. How many cannot get treatment at all? I have had very little wait in my encounters with our system other then in doctor's offices or ER's. Canada's system was designed to bring healthcare to everyone. Contrast this with a system designed around a "you get what you pay for" system. While our system will always have room for improvement, as long as it is improving overall is the main thing of concern to me.

No need for personal attacks AVRO it makes you look cheap and inefective.

You forgot about rich Canadians and thier healthcare.

I am not sure what your mothers problem was but when it come to thing like the heart i would rather do it ASAP. But your stories change like the wind. Germany is a country about 19% JUst like Italy Britian France the population of the USA and look at what they accomplish. So if you look at those standards you dont do that great.

I wont apoligize cause my point is proved it came from American money and with out it The canadian doctors could have maybe pulled their dicks. And once agasin you said CANADA invented it not some canadian doctors with American funding. like I said your stories change like the wind But I am not liberal I have along term memory.

Oh know, AVRO donated some money so now he thinks he is better than all of us! Watch for the condescension to begin!

Was at college back when I got the average that high. We go to college and work for the rest of our lives.

P.S. That was back in the day when I used to succumb to the "Name Game" thread and the "Never Ending Story" thread.

Just trying to get Trev some money for his work on this web site. If you don't want to give it's up to you guys but I notice how the ones on the right on issues are the freeloaders here. Kind of ironic isn't it?

Take care Indy.

Was I right or was I right?
