GM to cut 25,000 U.S. jobs
Interesting! If memory serves me correctly, GM Canada is doing quite well. Looks like GM Canada has an advantage due to our more efficient healthcare system.

Efficient healthcare system?
Scape @ Wed Jun 08, 2005 1:58 pm
10 billion more reasons why we have a more efficient healthcare system
He noted that health-care expenses add $1,500 US to the cost of each vehicle. This puts GM at a "significant disadvantage versus foreign-based competitors," and said GM has conducted "intense discussions" with the unions about how to reduce health-care costs, he said.
What's not mentioned is that the healthcare cost for vehicles built in Canada is $100/vehicle. Also a recent survey of North American auto plants found that GM had only two plants in the list of "Top Ten Most Productive". Both of those plants are Canadian plants. One of those two, Oshawa #2, was declared the most productive auto plant in North America. The American plants that made the list were owned by foreign companies (Nissan had three entries).
So the obvious question is: if it costs less to build cars (and trucks) in Canada, and Canadian plants are more productive, why has GM (and to a greater degree, Ford) closed so many Canadian plants in the last 5 years?

Efficient healthcare system?

I didn't say it was perfect, 2cdo, but it is more efficient than the US system.
$1:
National Health Care Spending
In 2003, health care spending in the United States reached $1.7 trillion, and was projected to reach $1.8 trillion in 2004. (3)
Health care spending is 4.3 times the amount spent on national defense. (4)
In 2003, the United States spent 15.3 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on health care. It is projected that the percentage will reach 18.7 percent in 10 years. (3)
Although nearly 45 million Americans are uninsured, the United States spends more on health care than other industrialized nations, and those countries provide health insurance to all their citizens. (4)
Health care spending accounted for 10.9 percent of the GDP in Switzerland, 10.7 percent in Germany, 9.7 percent in Canada and 9.5 percent in France, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. (5)
Total out-of-pocket spending on health care rose $13.7 billion, to $230 billion in 2003. (1)

Real efficient you have to wait on a list for open heart surguery. (my uncle in TO had to wait 3 months) Try to get an MRI see what happens. Try to change your primary care doctor see what happens. Your system is failing you and everyone in Canada is happy cause its "free" ITS NOT FREE!
it acounts for 9.7 percent and it is inferior to our medical care. Cause that whats counts when you are sick not percents and money.
Did you ever wonder why the USA comes out with most of the new medical inventions? That answers the 1.8 trillion.

Yeah, and why do half of all personal bankruptcies in the US result from medical bills?

Our system is failing us and is inferior to the American system?!? Not really, according to these stats on life expectancy at birth:
$1:
11. Canada 79.83 years
48. United States 77.14 years

BTW my wife had an MRI just recently and she waited 19 days. My Mom had heart surgery a few years ago and she was in within one month. My brother has had knee surgury twice and waited about 6 weeks for the first one and about 8 weeks for the other. My wife also had knee surgury and it was about 7 to 8 weeks for her. This is not bad but it could be better and it is worse in other regions. Like I have said many times in the past our system is not perfect but at least it strives to ensure every Canadian no matter how fat their wallet is recieves health care while at the same time giving us economic advantages as well.
19 days wait for an MRI? 6-8 weeks for elective surgery? Jesus H. Christ.
That's ludicrous. My Dad had two different MRI's,
and elective surgery based on the the MRi's results, and it was over and done with in
5 days. How freaking long do you guys wait for a dental visit?
Avro Avro:
You completely avoided the topic and I expected this. My original post had nothing at all to do with how efficient our health care system is it has to do with cost. I suspect you do that because it is not your job that is being eliminated......yet.

No innovation coming from Canada? Are you kidding me? We do okay for a country a tenth the size of yours thank you very much. In fact I think Canadians just recently found a vaccine for Ebola and achieved a molecular milestone by designing a tiny switch to greatly increase the speed of computers, look it up if you doubt me.
Anyways enjoy surfing our superior Canadian web site you obviously have nothing better to do.

I did not start the eficcency debate someone else did I simply responded to someone else. But I figured you would have blamed me. I seem to get the blame for everything on this site cause I have different views from th majority here.
I own my own company and have 20 employees so unless i fire my self its gonna be hard to lose my job. And my company provide healthcare insurance for all of the employes yes it is expensive but I push that cost to the retailers and they push it to the buyers and the economy goes around. If I dont like the service my health care insurance is providing I can switch. Try not paying your taxes you go to jail.
3 weeks for a MRI 3WEEKS!!!!! (my friend had chest pains and a massive headache he went to the emergency room and had an MRI in one hour) are you friggin kidding me? Heart surgurey one month ? (My brother-in law had heart surgeury 2 years ago. he went in for the stress test in the morning they found the blockage on 2 arteries they told him they have a opening for the evening, or he could wait 48 hours for the next opening. he went in the evening and was home in 4 days) Knee surguery I understand its not life defining.
And your Canadians with the fat wallets dont go to the same Hospitals that you do most go to private hopitals if they dont come to the USA all together. THEY PAY HEALTH INSURANCE cause they dont want to die waiting for a Open heart surguery.
Where do you get your misinformation from? Do you always repeat hearsay? Canada did not find a workable vaccine for Ebola the US army did THATS RIGHT THE ARMY! Along with other medical doctors including a Italian-American doctor Dr. Fauci (very proud of him) But of course this is coming from people who think a Canadian invented the Zamboni.Anyway the link is below.
