Adjectives fail me..........
ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Most of the time I've been to the States, I've experienced indifference (to most of them it's like saying you're from Montana, Minnesota or Wisconsin Big deal!) or good natured ribbing from Americans who find out I'm a Canadian. Never have I experienced hostility or rudeness because of my nationality. American friends and family on the other hand, keep asking where this myth of the polite Canadian came from. Working overseas, you stop obsessing over whether you are mistaken for Canadian, British, American, Australian, South African or New Zealanders. You realize that except for accents you're pretty much the same, especially in the eyes of non Anglo cultures.
I have to disagree on this one. Yes, non-Anglo cultures may lump us all together as 'gaijin' (Japanese for barbarians/outsiders/foreigners depending on who you ask), gwailo (Cantonese for caucasian/devil/etc), as well as farang (Thai), and so on, but we are all not the same.
When I lived in Asia, I was always assumed to be an American, not just by the Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese, but by the Brits, the South Africans, the Kiwis, everybody (well, everyone but the Aussies who know our 'Canadian accent' from Degrassi...go figure). Why? Because I speak English roughly the same as them and I'm white. I had plenty of people ask me about the Ehime Maru incident and the Spy plane over China, simply because I was white and sound like a lot of Americans.
Just because we look the same to others doesn't make it so. That's like North Americans saying all Asians look the same and therefore are.
One double standard I have never understood is why it is okay for Americans to get up and chant U-S-A, U-S-A and go woo-woo-woo, but the second a Canadian distringuishes himself/herself by wearing a maple leaf pin on his backpack, we are the ones looking for attention. You never hear of Scottish people getting yelled at because they told the world they were Scottish, even though to many untrained ears, they sound quite a bit like the English. Same with Aussies and Kiwis, they will always tell you where they are from with a proud smile on their face. But the second a Canadian tells an American he's from here, there is a look, like oops, we are talking with a spy in our midst.
Why is American patriotism okay but Canadian patriotism isn't?

You'd be surprised.

That's right! A guy with a rifle can take on a tank. Here's what happens when he does...

You gotta wonder about anyone who would expend so much time and energy on that blog - what's this unhealthy obsession some Americans have about Canada just because Canada doesn't always behave like some docile little colony

Oh yes. Your country gets quite a benefit, without which it could not survive, from a peaceful, productive, undefended border (What could it use for defense if it had to, Sea Kings?) For the US, having to defend against Canada would be an annoyance. I do not think it's too much to ask that Canada, as a NATO nation, help keep common enemies at bay.
If Canada wants to become a terrorist nation itself, obviously, all bets are off.
Aww, that's real nice. A thinly veiled threat that if Canada doesn't dance to America's tune... ------>

The idea of America invading canda is stupid. our economies and militaries work together not at odds with one another. We bark at one another ocasionnaly but we have the longest undefended border in the world for a reason.
What puzzles me is the asshole rightwing extreme politics that seem to have taken over the grand republic. The do what we say or we will kick your ass attidude although not new has never been so blatant or trumpetted so loudly. Within the states the complete hatred promoted between the those who back one party or the other is unbeleivable. each view the other as evil not people with opposing viewpoints. it is very bad for their nation i should think.
The other thing i can't belive is the number of americans who post to these boards saying inflammatory things. I mean people get mad and say stupid things but eventually the emotion winds down and common sence takes over. I know that happens to me sometimes. The posters i am refferring to seem to have nothing better to do then post Canadians are assholes in various ways here. Myself i refer to governments not people as this is an important distinctiion in my mind. My main point is if you are here merely to say we are assholes then what a sad way to spend time. Get a hobby, play with your kids or something constructive . if you want to play captain American and fight join the army and go to Iraq.
Cheers

In this case, "invading" means "strolling across the border and pretty much taking whatever you want."
An emminently wise post I must say.
Sad to say Canada, but many Americans don't know if Canada is north, south, east or west of the US. And never mind the American bad-mouthers. Most Americans like Canadians, even if they don't know anything about us.
How best to punish US for lumber ripoff ? Canada is running out of options. The tariffs have cost Canada billions and thousands of jobs. The tariffs were the straw that broke the camels back for a lumber recycler in my city. Gone are another 70 jobs. Wonder how long it would take California to dry up without the water we pump down there ? How long for midwest to get damn cold this winter without our natural gas exports ? I imagine New England states would get a little darker without power from Quebec ? Its time to take a stand. Bush and his merry band of profiteers think they are above the law and trade agreements. Will be hard to get the 5 billion plus interest from the deadbeat bastards. Boot the DEA out of Canada too while yer at it. Time for Ottawa to grow a pair and tell them where to get off. No shortage of other countries willing to accept Canadian oil,gas and lumber products. Pisses me off everytime i go to Home Depot and lumber has gone up again due to some natural disaster in US. They need our wood to rebuild but are screwing us on our profit margin. We know who our real friends are.

I was in Val Dòr Qc Dec.22, 2005, for the purpose of closing down 3 sawmills that were loosing money hand over fist due to these unfair tarrifs.
They were such hard workers, and not as if there is anything to do up there, apart from the forest. Watch for the towns Sullivan, Grand-Remous to shut down this year.
so sad, just like schaefferville, remember that Brian Malauxnez

What wankers the Yanks are, at the turn of the 20th century, BlackJackPersing (a General they say), invaded Mexico twice, illegally, trying to capture Puncho Villa, he gave up after 2 expeditions. So if Mexican Bandits can hold you off, us Canadians will rip you a new breathing hole. As I hear after that great American Victory (sic), it was time for WWI
after all Canadians and Brits had been fighting the HUNs for 3 years at that time.
But that was all a dress rehersal for WW2, where the USA entered the war 3 years after everyone else.
Big Loud arrogant windbags. and GWB is the latest of a long line of them.
