Michael Moore made his name on telling people what they want to hear, whether it be true or {usually as it turns out} not. Beneath that fleshy frame and down-home demeanor of his lies a cynical, condescending top shelf manipulator, he's not a bad video editor either.

Seriously though, even moreso than the people who take his works of gospel I'm sooo sick of those of his fans, who while acknowledging the many lies and inconsistancies in his works, claim that it's all necessary to counter the propaganda of that far right we keep hearing about.

Yes, Third eye, an extremely far-left government, when tied to an authoritarian bent, such as we saw in the USSR or China felt that their governemnts were more important than people. That's not a secret. The only political belief the modern left is trying to get across to people is that democracy is not the same as capitalism. The right lost that little fact, or rather tossed it away, a long time ago.

I mentioned Pat Buchanan and some members of the Bush adminstration here too. If you want to talk about deceitful, hypocritical liars....

The fact that such web-sites have sprung up about Moore is a sign of how much the right hates him...is scared of him, really.

It's no secret that Moore is now wealthy. That's part of his schtick...he's beat them at their own game and is now whacking them on the head with it. Nothing he says contradicts making money. His message is a simple one...some very rich people are abusing abusing average people in order to become even richer. This idea the right has that anybody on the left should take some sort of vow of poverty is one of the big lies.

Twila is right about many intellectuals agreeing with him too. Chomsky, Nader, Ivens and others have the same message. These are bright people...ones the right is so afraid of that they try to right them off as, "pointy-headed intellectuals." It's almost hilarious how certain members of the right try their best to discredit members of the left without every really facing the basic arguments being put forth.

Oh well, Mrs. Rev is waiting...off to the bar.

ok So what is up with the canada is #1 hyperlink to articles about the UN rankings? Yes Canada was ranked number on for years but the last two years you have been ranked 8th behind.... the USA!!!! so switch to the correct number, Canada is number 8 not number 1.

By the way I am only kidding but try to be less biased please. I feel like I am on the website of the ACLU in America.

USA #7!!!

Well according to:
http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/07/04/canada_un030704

There are several factors that could have contributed to the most recent drop to eighth place.

The UN changed the way it measures education enrollment. Under the new system, the percentage of people eligible to be in school in Canada who are actually enrolled dropped to 94 per cent from 97 per cent.

Also, Canada's gross domestic product per capita slipped slightly from last year.

Robair @ Sun Dec 14, 2003 12:09 am

The UN's ranking system is based on a mathematical formula. A big part of that formula is how much foriegn spending a country does. The US climbed dramaticaly in ratings partialy because of all the money they've spent in Iraq.

[quote="Robair"]. The US climbed dramaticaly in ratings partialy because of all the money they've spent in Iraq.

Correction : Haliburton spent the money, and has apparently overcharged the U.S. government. Stay tuned for more antics on BUSHWORLD

Uh, Sucks? What's wrong with the ACLU. Fighting for civil liberties and equality is generally a pretty good thing.

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

-- Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

BadAssBookie BadAssBookie:
Coud be. I just saw an interview with actor/director Sean Penn. My god, he actually sounded like he had a thought process going on.

I am stunned.(and happy)

Penn has one thing in mind, and that is politics, he wants to run for some thing like being the State senator, or Congressman of his state, and would be well advised to stick to acting, which frankly, he does well, directing, I think, he should leave to those who know how to do so.
