Why is it then that 40% of Canadian teenagers feel America is evil?
Because they watch the news?
Because they know the contributions Canada has made in the past and is making now, and then they see what Bill O'Riley and Newt Gingrich have to say about them? And what President Bush ignores about them?
And when Americans pull statistics out their ass and apply it to them?
Really Teenagers watching news? are you from the planet earth? I cant beleive you just wrote that.
NEWT GINGRICH please he is old news.

NYC..Perhaps it is because they see first hand the war in Iraq and are seeing the affects of some of the American protectionist policies being used against Canada. Canadians are not puppets of our American neighbours. They see the world through eyes that are not tainted by American ideals. We cannot all see the world through the red white and blue glasses that you look through.

So you are saying the majority of teenagers in Canada watch the nightly news and pick up the daily papers and read it all, except the sports and the sunshine girl. Hence thay are smarter than American teenagers? That is a quite eliteist.
Well not the one's I met they are just like American teenagers. Dumb young and full of cum.
I'd say teenagers are more apt to form their impressions from the new Green Day album than from the news.

As long as they are not being given a teachers point of view as gospel. They should also be shown that the Iraqi infrstructure is being rebuilt by the US army. And that the protectionist view are because your goverment give tax breaks and leway in genral that are unfair i.e. the lumber companies. I dont expect them to look through the world with red white and blue glasses. as long as they are given two sides of the coin.

Last I checked Canada is not a player in that war so precisely WHO are the Canadians seeing this war "first hand"? They are NOT seeing it first hand they are seeing it on CBC and hearing it discussed at school.
The American teenagers who ARE seeing it first hand say that the Iraqis are happy that the Americans are there (for now) and that the Syrians and Palestinians are not happy that Iraq is going democratic.

Yeaaaa.... that's what I said.
You say Canadian teens are anti-American. Why don't you do us a favor and define 'American' so we can see with what, exactly, you are accusing Canadian youth.

I think he means is that teenagers growing up now are exposed to the whole Iraq bit and what the Americans are doing, so they get their impressions of America that way. I dont watch CBC news, I watch CFCN...so hmm.
How are American teenagers seeing it "first" hand? With American news? or what? How would they know, are they physically in Iraq? They are being fed whats on the news, just like in Canada although at different view points which is the key here, view points.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting what you mean by "first hand", but you don't have to be a player in order to have journalists in Iraq. So I would say we get news that's as "first hand" as American teenagers do. Whether it's CBC or NBC, reports directly from Iraq are still directly from Iraq. Even supposing that were not true, the fact that American news networks are so readily accessible here means Canadians are getting roughly the same information.

The only difference, IMO, is that it IS America that is at war, naturally perceptions are going to be different when you view news as a country directly involved as opposed to a (more) objective third party. That emotional element just isn't there in our case.
I think that most of the teens who said that the US was evil are basing it off of Iraq, and as teens often do, they simply exaggerated. Evil is a strong word, I would not use it to describe the US today. I'd like to think otherwise, but 4 years ago? I can't say for certain that I wouldn't have used it myself.
Well, this is how I (A teen) look at it. Most of the.. less intellegent teens who don't know/care about the democratic and capitolist ideals that America has for Iraq (My own opinions on the situation vary) see it as just another pointless war the US started to flex it's muscles. They just think "OMG! America went to war on ANOTHER poor country? What a bunch of assholes"

All I know is that my social and english teacher is American. Somehow she figures shes French Canadian-American. The level of knowledge of current events in my classroom is terribly low. I find myself fighting idealogy of current events between her and myself gets intense. She once even gave me a 15 minute lecture on why not to read Michael Moore. Its ridiculous. We dont learn anti-americanism, we learn pro america, and i hate it. Not cause I hate America, but because I love Canada more.
Canadian teens do keep themselves aware of the world around them. They hear of the bad stuff that happens in America aswell as the bad stuff that happens in Canada. I don't see America as evil, just in a very bad situation that makes them look retarded, even though this is a total generalisation. America is not evil. Their current government is. And I can't BELIEVE that Bush got a 9 year old kid to join his bandwagon saying that privatisation of social security is a good thing. Here's the link. I swear to your gods(whichever one[s] you believe in) that this is no joke.
