Canadian teens do keep themselves aware of the world around them. They hear of the bad stuff that happens in America aswell as the bad stuff that happens in Canada. I don't see America as evil, just in a very bad situation that makes them look retarded, even though this is a total generalisation. America is not evil. Their current government is. And I can't BELIEVE that Bush got a 9 year old kid to join his bandwagon saying that privatisation of social security is a good thing. Here's the link. I swear to your gods(whichever one[s] you believe in) that this is no joke.

I think most of this whole thread was all generalizations on both sides. Americans are taught about the rest of the world(throughout school we take world history classes)it's just that alot of people let the whole "superpower" thing get to their head and choose to ignore and be indifferent about the rest of the world. I'll give you that there's some Americans that don't know much about Canada, but there's also Americans who don't even know who the president of the United States is, or the vice president. It all depends who you talk to.

$1:
It’s not just overreaction or Yankee imagination. Anti-Americanism is not only alive and well, it’s spoon fed in Canada.

Quite true...When I was a kid, I remember asking my mom if I can go out and play, she would respond, "Not until you eat all your anti-americanism"

$1:
The Three `Rs, Canada style, have been teaching school children as young as grade school an image of Americans as dishonourable, churlish and even bullying. This less than admirable image emerges in a study, presented this week to the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, hosted by the University of Manitoba

Don't know shit about this..I'll opt to STFU....personally, as a Canadian having attended a Canadian school, I don't recall anything like this....but lately can say I have seen the Bullying.....and I got a *beef with that, pun intended!

$1:
Ironic that the release of the study coincides with the 60th Anniversary of D-Day.

What's your point here? Are you saying they choose this day to disgrace Americans and play up Canada's part? That's some pretty insulting speculation there isn't it?

$1:
America’s children are portrayed as being brought up in "filthy tenements, driven out upon the streets to play in `gangs’," according to a 1934 textbook that was prevalent in Canadian classrooms of the day.

75 yrs man.....75 years ago there were Americans who thought Hitler wasn't a bad guy too...."A New Germany" Sieries 1 "The World at War" Check it out...Americans saying that they are "Great admirers" of Hitler...75 years ago people thought some fucked up shit eh!

$1:
In contrast, Canadians are depicted as orderly, harmonious and gentlemanly

We can be, seldom are we....IMHO

$1:
This explains where little Paulie (Martin), little Johnny (Chretien) and the plethora of anti-American Canadian journalists got their base for Yankee bashing. They, too are among the masses, which were educated in Canadian classrooms.

The fact that you use the word "little" to describe Canadas elected Prime Minister, shows you think nothing of the people who elected them. I mean if thier leader is "little", then the people they rep. are even less....... Then you question why there is anti-Americanism.....look at the attitude you yourself display towards us.

$1:
Chretien and Martin, the last two Liberal Canadian prime ministers have been avid boosters of the United Nations. Both men count UN Secretary General Kofi Annan special advisor, Maurice Strong as mentor and friend.

Are we supposed to feel bad about this or something? I though the UN was a good thing? Shows what I know.

$1:
Not only did Canada refuse to join the U.S. and allies in the Iraq war; its government has been openly critical of the U.S. and its allies in Iraq.

Right...If your not with us, your against us! LMFAO

$1:
The Liberals’ proposal for a "Peace and Nation-Building Initiative" that would not employ fighting troops, but rather "troops tasked to build institutions in fractured countries, has raised the dander of experienced Canadian peacekeepers

I never heard of that....think I'll STFU.

$1:
Running for re-election in the Canadian June 28 federal election are Carolyn Parrish, a Liberal MP who stated publicly "I hate those American bastards" and MP Colleen Beaumier, whose visit and sympathies for Iraq earned her the nickname "Baghdad Beaumier".

OK...You got the Who, the What, the When, the Where, but what you missed, the Why, is considered by most people to be of importance. I'm not defending her, but why did she say that? What was her reason? As for the other missus, dont know shit about it..I'll STFU.

$1:
Meanwhile, while anti-Americanism flourishes in America’s next door neighbour, the U.S. is Canada’s number one trading partner

Oh yes, it's spring time in Canada. The Anti-Americanism flowers are in full bloom! As for the trade...seems quite simple to me...Canada = Large supply, small demand....America smaller supply, Larger demand....Now this combined with the geography, (which I would obviously know nothing about having spent all my time in school being taught how bad and evil the Americans are), of North America, and the location of the countries involved...kind of a no brainer. [bonk]

$1:
because of Canada’s marginalized Armed Forces, its chief protector.

Personally, I think our forces deserve better than what the've been getting from us....so sadly...I'll have to agree with the 1st part of that last quote... :x ..... :P As for "chief protector"....you could argue that....I won't agree, but some might.

BeaverBill @ Thu May 05, 2005 6:07 am

Even the British say the Americans came late into the war.....they don't say that about Canada, wonder why?

The reason Canada didn't lend the flag in the Iraq war has more to do with democracy than anti american sentiment..... Canada just wasn't convinced. Wasn't a very convincing arguement deserving the sacrifice of Canadian soldiers, our finest (and poorly equiped at the moment). Hundred of thousands ,in Canada, went out and protested in contra. Many millions world wide. It's called democracy. Bush and his cronies will just have to be more convincing the next time. (Eg. Spain went in against public opinion and Aznar and his buddies got KICKED OUT of gov't from a majority gov't to opposition. Mind you, it wasn't the only issue.)

Another thing..... why is it that what Canada HAS done for America not worth mentioning, just the Iraq war, which Canada HAS been helping with. This lack of respect is not something new and the Canadian public is used to it, just don't expect better in return.

So you are saying the majority of teenagers in Canada watch the nightly news and pick up the daily papers and read it all, except the sports and the sunshine girl. Hence thay are smarter than American teenagers? That is a quite eliteist.
Well not the one's I met they are just like American teenagers. Dumb young and full of cum.

$1:
As long as they are not being given a teachers point of view as gospel. They should also be shown that the Iraqi infrstructure is being rebuilt by the US army. And that the protectionist view are because your goverment give tax breaks and leway in genral that are unfair i.e. the lumber companies. I dont expect them to look through the world with red white and blue glasses. as long as they are given two sides of the coin.

Ahh. Most kids don't give a rats ass about what their teachers say anyways, and the ones who do will more often than not go out and find out for themselves. I don't really want two sides of the coin, really, I just want what I need to get through the exam.

$1:
I'd say teenagers are more apt to form their impressions from the new Green Day album than from the news.

OK, let's give teens a bit more credit. I'm sixteen (soon to be seventeen) and my life right now is hectic. I'd absolutely love to come home, sit down and watch the news like my dad. However, when my dad comes home his work day is done, he rarely ever has to "bring the office home" with him, but me, I bring school home with me every single night, I can't watch the news simply because I don't have the time. I get probably around six hours of sleep a night, and when I wake up it definitely isn't two hours before I have to leave the house so that I can read the news paper over a nice cup of coffee. But I would absolutely love it if I could. I go to school, balance a part time job, do homework, and now on top of all this I'm supposed to be analysing all the current events and forming non-biased, educated opinions on them? I can't even vote yet!

I do my best to keep up, but no, I'm probably not the most informed person, I'm just doing my best to get through high school.

I read the Newspaper every morning to get a good wakeup call on the worlds interesting events. Your right, when I was in High School, I didnt care dick all about the worlds events, all that was in my mind was the grade. But now, its pretty interesting.

Ripcat @ Thu May 05, 2005 9:57 pm

Well, I read the first page, skipped 2, 3 and 4, read most of 5.

I don't recall my schooling being anti-american. I don't know how learning about the pony express or the lawlessness of the west is anti-american. I do know that in geography, the projects(aka ghettos), were shown as being poor urban development but I don't see how this is anti-american either.

The U.S. has encountered problems before us and naturally made mistakes along the way when trying to solve these problems. People learn from their mistakes(or someone elses) so to educate better real examples are used and many times those examples come from the U.S. because the information is there to draw from.

I do remember learning about the space race and how America was the first to put a man on the moon. I remember how the allies were having a hard time with WWII but with alot of help from America we were victorious. I remember learning about how Henry Ford made cars affordable to the masses. I remember learning about the grandeur of the Grand Canyon. I remember....

Why is it then that 40% of Canadian teenagers feel America is evil?

I am gonna take a wild guess and say it is because they hear about Americans bombing the shit out of countires like Iraq....just taking a shot in the dark here

Im in grade 12 now and 18 years old, i remember all the history and everything ive learned throughout elementry school and high school and this "anti American spoon feeding" shit is a figment of your ignorant American mind. You see i have allot of contempt for allot of Americans but not because of school, I have MANY american friends and relatives who i respect and feel the same way about as any Canadian, but then i meet Americans who are %&^*$&*$&*&* ignorant, insulting and arrogant as hell and it drives me insane, school never tought me anythign ad about the U.S, the worst thing i heard about them was that we kicked there asses in 1812, and thats real history not spoon fed shit. You obviously know nothing about the Canadian education system,so take it from someone who is currently in it cause i think being in it everyday gives me abit more of an insight into it then you have. I dont hate Americans in general, just the ones who are very .....^ read above. Canadians do not hate or dislike americans for nothign you know, only idiots hate someone for nothing and Canadians in general are far less idiotic then Americans, in other words less ignoran, less arrogant, more humble, less insulting. so obvuiously America is doing something to piss us off, and im sorry if i come accross as insulting but for %$^# sakes even some of my American friends agree with me...the more intelligent open minded ones that is that arent sucked in by american media and brain washed by propaganda disguised as "entertainment".

I bolded the statements which show that you are arrogant and closeminded i.e ignorant. For the same reason you hate "some Americans" you act the same way so what makes you any better?
