Wow never thought I would ever post again but I just had to. I personaly cheered for the Russians and it had nothing to do with politics. Nor did it have anything to do with Jackson elbowing whats his face.
This goes back to the 72 summit series. I think a lot of Canadians just love to watch team Canada play the Russians in hockey.
I cheered for the states when they played other teams. But for me I just love a good Russian and Canadian hockey game.
So thats my two cents I will log out now.

I agree with all who are disapointed in the bozos that boooed the US team.
but its a sport and no Politics should be involve in a sport.
Heres a good one...when danny heatley played his first game in Atlanta after he was traded to Ottawa because heatley's reason to be traded was he wanted to leave the city and the memories of the accident that killed his team buddy behind.
what happend when he got on the ice they fuckin boooed him...now thats a disgrace...the man got booed because he left the city to clear his head.
Thats just heartless of the so called ATLANTA fans..you cant tell me they were all drunk?

As I have said before, much to the chagrin of the resident lefties on CKA, Canada does not want to attract the attention of America this way. I know it is an unequal relationship and it will always be so unless Canada suddenly becomes America's equal in every way.
As anyone who knows me should know, I'm dearly fond of Canada.
That said, if the booing and hissing and name calling from the liberals does not abate, as our Ambassador advised, there will be repercussions.
Canada and the USA have been friends for a long time, but if you boo enough and call our President a moron enough and act like you don't like us, then at what point do you expect us to start paying attention to that?
At some point the general public down here will collectively say, "Hey, Canada hates us."
Once that becomes enough people to win votes for whichever politician panders to the anti-Canada vote then there will be problems.
And softwood and etc. will be the least of them.
Geez Bart, sounds like a pretty one sided friendship if not a very arrogant attitude to take. "Kiss our Butts or you won't like what we do to you". Making threats is basically what you are doing in your post with a "our way or the highway" attitude.
Would I have booed the US Junior team? No, would I have cheered them? again no. I root for the Red and white and I really don't care who we are playing. As long as Canada wins, I don't care what happens in any other game. If a bunch of retards feel the need to back slap because they are getting media coverage for their stupidness, so be it, as for the President noticing, I would be very surprised seems how JR hockey in the USA has about the same appeal to the majority of your countrymen as Al Quaida. Check out the attendance at the tournament hosted in Boston a few years back, EMPTY. This even in an NHL city and ameteur hockey hotbed. North Dakota would have been the same if not for the close proximity of the Canadian border to fill the stands. I am really sure JWB has more important things on his plate than worrying about a hockey game involving a team I am so very sure he does not even know exists, in Vancouver.

Just a footnote, in the 70's, when the Soviet National team would often tour Canada over the holidays, when they played Montreal, I would root for the Soviets, that has nothing to do with politics, I just hate the Habs.

I'm not trying to sound arrogant, just pointing out that if Canada collectively acts unfriendly to America and Americans that at some point Americans will notice.
"Suck it up" is not at all a polite thing to say, but the reality is that in a degraded political situation the costs for Canada will be higher than for the USA.

1. The only thing I would boo at a sports event would be bad sportsmanship, sucker punching, etc.
2. Funny how sports fans anywhere in the world seem to think they are exempt from decent behavior. In South America, you could get killed watching a soccer game. Hmmm.. maybe we should send some Canadian hockey fans to a Brazilian soccer game. No, wait... it would be hilarious to put some Canadian hockey fans in the middle of some British soccer (football) fans.

I was raised to respect everyone's flag and when I toured Europe I made a point of getting a flag patch of every country I was in,never did get an east Germany one though.

If one were, that would have gone some way toward explaining the Yankee animus oozing out of the stands: File it under home-ice over-exuberance. It would have been forgivable. Barely.
But the Americans were playing the Russians at the time.
And the Canadian crowd wasn't just rooting for the Russians -- amazing enough in itself, considering that bitter history -- it was rooting against the Americans. And the chanters weren't so much interested in a hockey game as scoring points against America, the country, not the team.

...if some parents got issues with the US, a hockey game isn't the place to voice their opinion. Not only that but, it's not the kids who are running the country right now. It's adults. Kids should not be involved at any time in any argument...wether political or personal (like between divorced parents).

The Canadians I have met personally are cool folk and I've been to most of Canada.

I don't see how politics enters into this one, most of the booing was concentrated at Johnson after he picked up the puck, which is understandable considering his cheap shot on Canadian forward Steve Downie, they did not boo the flag or the anthem, are our fans no longer allowed to side with any team other than the U.S. when we are not playing, without it looking like we are making a political statement. It is a sporting event, home ice advantage is all about the roar of the crowd, wheither positive or negative.Here's one side of the story:

Booing anybody at a sporting event for any reason is absolutely ridiculous all of the time. I'd say it's an indication of the skewed impression of competition these hockey people have, and not one of international relations.
If Bart thinks Canadians need to patronize American hockey players for the sake of whatever empty threats he's making, he should
