What do you suppose the U.S. would have to say if Canada were to decide to persue its own nuclear weapons program, independent of the U.S...

I'm not sure if I'd want to go that route but I don't really care what the US would think . It's too bad that much power was ever created . There is enough power in bombs now to destroy the same thing we are trying to protect , "The Earth" With that being said rules to war have to change and the Policeing must take on the role ie you may not be legally allowed to operate a nuclear facility of any sort unless it is operated by a nuetral group , country , or organization including the US and , cannot be for reasons of war , or within the boundaries of populations which would pose as a threat to citizens of any country.

   

i looked up some stuff on the a-bomb on wiki(yes not always an accurate historical source but according to the local newspaper it is as accurate as encyclopedias on matters of science, and canada could aeasily make a gun type fission weapon without anyone knowing. Unless of couse there are spies.

   

The USA would shut down any such program.If they couldn't do it by diplomacy then they would resort to other means.
That's just the way they are.

   

They would scream blue bloody murder. Know why? Because we, like Iran have signed the non-proliferation treaty. I know I trust us not to build a nuke (even though we could at that the drop of a hat), not so sure I trust a country that calls for genocide of the Jews to not develope them.

   

Would america get nervous if Canada started developing a nuclear weapon? Probally. Canada is not an aggressive country.. Because of that it would make america nervous as to why Canada would even want one. Though I dont think the USA would ever attack Canada over it. Probally a bit more spying though

   

I think you're forgetting that the states outright gave canada nukes back during the cold war. What makes any of you think that the US would give a damn?

All the PM would need to say is that the nukes are for retaliation in case a state sponsored terrorist struck canada. And they'd just get approving nods from the states.

   

I dont think Canada would ever need one. America would never attack Canada.. You are our brothers and sisters as far as I and the rest of my countrymen are concerned. If anybody touched Canada besides all the pissed off Canadians they'd have to deal with, America would step in immediatley with a force large enough to wipe them off the map. I dont think any country in the world could touch Canada and America together.

I must say however that if any country should be allowed a nuke it should be Canada for sure. I feel safer with Canada having a nuke then my own country. You've got a good country going for you

   

If Canada developed a nuclear weapon, written on the side would be.....

I think Americans would love for us to develop nukes and would stronly encourage it....If we patrolled the Arctic Ocean with nuke armed subs they wouldn't need to, and could send their subs elsewhere.....

Canadians would never go for it though.....

Interesting to note, I think that Canada is the number one developer of nuclear power in the world, in that we export nuclear power plant designs everywhere......We are highly involved in worldwide nuclear power generation....

Sort of like how Americans export their out of the box prison systems to us, we export nuclear power plants all over the place.....

   

They werent patrolling. Notice how when we said we were going to defend, they got pissed?

Why not? There has been nukes for 61 years. 2 have been used. They were drastic times for drastic measures. I doubt anyone would mind us ensuring Canada's safety from asshats.
