Only if I meet Scottish people....
You should put your plaid skirt back on...
EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I never understand this civilians wanting to carry weapons thing.
You'd think they'd know their place?

This time I think you missed a negative here. Shouldn't?
Correct, my mistake.

If you think that you should be able to pull out your gun any time you feel uncomfortable like this jack-ass did, then no freaking way should you be able to.
I haven't said that. However, I think that I should have the option to carry.
The rules for how and when people can use a firearm, or if they have to conceal carry or open carry come after we establish that Canadians have the right and legal protection to defend themself and others.

Then please, move to the US, because I (and lots of people with me) don't think anyone should have the "option" to carry.

We do. Just not with a fire arm on public property.

Do you have issues with one being used on private property?

So you're going to carry it but not pull it out? What's the point of that? How many people do you think will pull it out, and use it, for all sorts of minor reasons. How many people will not back off to de-escalate a minor conflict because they feel tough with their gun?

Depends. I am in debate with myself about that

I would not consider it a good idea in the city, even on private property, but for farmers who have help at least 30 minutes away (just throwing a number out there...), I think I wouldn't mind a hunting riffle.

But in the event of someone breaking into my house a pistol is far better than a rifle once he is inside. Plus I think I'm closer to 45 minutes from the nearest police/fire/ambulance attachments.

Why should he de-escalate if someone else started the conflict? To be honest if I thought more people were carrying I'd probably be far less of an ass to people, even the ones who deserve to be treated that way!
I thought a shotgun is the best weapon for home defence

Bingo, we have a winner.

But wouldn't the threat of a fire arm alone not scare someone away?
I am a city slicker living in the boonies, but still a town, and my next door neighbour can hear me scream, so I don't need one, I feel.
I know how to use a riffle and a handgun, since my ex-brother in law in the Czech Republic carries when they are at their vacation house (they live in Prague, where he does not carry, for as far as I know), so he taught me, and it turned out I have my fathers eye and talent (he was a sharp shooter during his days in the army). Still, I think a guard dog is better than a gun...
And in the city, yeah, no. At the Stampede... Are ya outta yer mind???

When I was about 20, I knew a guy who was was very agressive when he had few drinks and got beat up a lot for it. I think there was un underlying psychological problem... but I digress. I was sitting with him at a bar one night and he pulls out a handgun, sticks it in my face and says, "Look what I got!!!". He was so proud that he'd finally be able to protect himself.
So I do what any casual acquaintance would do... I go to the washroom, tell the barman, who calls the police and 15 minutes later, they're hauling his ass out of there. Of course, they had to beat a little sense into him to get his cooperation.
