Rig 6,was that near Innisfail last september?

Did a few builds and rig tows for traiblazer rigs the last few years.
innisfail, camrose,Trochu,Big valley,Elnora,Vulcan and Del Bonita are a few locations I remember.

trailblazer#32

lease build del Bonita

Actually that was a stock photo. I was on TB14 outside Jenner, just 5 miles north of the airbase.

Right now I am considering going back out on a rig up by Vallyview, or start OTR with my own rig (tractor trailer/owner operator).

Taking 2 weeks off to look into options and to finish off building my web sites: (my pt hobby)

Actually I have done both Vac and Water. Yes

But right now I am considering doing Long Haul, maybe hauling produce from California north to Canada. (sorta a break for the winter months)

Rig Mgr. you mean the Tool Puch or Consultant. On my rig, the Tool Push makes $36/hr. (they just got a raise) Of course he has to stay on location 24/7 so it's something like $900/day. (now that's a good job!)

So what do you do??

btw, I am making more than the lease hand on the rig right now.

In a nutshell - WE HAVE:oil, we have natural gas, we have water, we have lumber, we have coal, we have fish, we have plenty of space and clean air (Vancouver aside). THEY HAVE: a really good military

Conclusion? We win!

If you had to build a military like the US, how would your taxes by then?

If you had to rebuild the US military what would it do to your taxes?

Triple_R @ Sun Dec 10, 2006 8:38 am

Just a couple of small additions...

USA - Pro: I like how in the US you can vote directly for your Head of State, and you can vote a 'split ticket' where the regional representative you vote for is from a different party than the Head of State that you vote for. This often serves the purpose of creating a certain balance in the US as you very rarely have a case of virtual one-party rule (as we arguably had in Canada from 1993 to 2004).

Canada - Pro: I like how we have at least three viable alternatives to vote for in Canada - Liberal, Conservative, and NDP. I've heard many Americans talk about the 'duopoly' in Washington between the Republicans and the Democrats, and how there's so little choice available to them. With this in mind, I'm glad that we almost always have at least three viable alterantives in Canada.

We do it all the time, what's your point? Canadians would be paying out the gazoo to have a military like the US. Canada couldn't afford it.

This is from the hip but. You probably have more people in your military then we have people so that is a ridiculous comment.

I do believe however we should increase our spending per capita.

I didn't mean numbers, but the commitment to a powerful military like the US. You would have cut back your social programs to do it.

And this is a good thing? What's a Neocon globe trotting nation-builder is doing with a name like Foundersintent is beyond me..... I could understand you calling yourself Polk.

It's Grand that the US has a nice military. It doesn't seem capable of winning wars, or even keeping the country safe from many future injustices. Unfortunately, having a military twice the size of the rest of the worlds with bases spanning the globe is a far cry from the early Fathers that decried being shipped off to foreign wars. Most of the Declaration of Independence rails against exactly this behaviour. The only difference between then and now is we have a native King George driving this idiocy.

If America's military and it's operations were such an easy burden to handle, you'd think the operating budgets would be part of the National budget rather than being hidden away in annual multibillion dollars appropriations bills that will never be added to the "official debt". The US will still have to pay this back. Unfortunately, it will be left to my children to do. Hopefully, they get the bill before all the boomers kick the bucket. I think it would be only fair to yank the Medicare and Social Security budgets to pay for what their generation didn't create.

TheFoundersIntent @ Thu Feb 08, 2007 7:44 pm

Your idea of winning wars is not well defined. When it comes to winning at what it is trained to do, the US military always wins. So what is it training to do? Kill people and break things. That was what happened for a few months in 2003, a major land battle. It went through Iraq like shit through a goose. Now if you would like to see it do more that, then you'll see more winning. Frankly I think that's exactly what the US military should be doing. It should break things until the Iraqis get off their asses and start shutting down these insurgents. I would move the green zone to the oil fields, because that is the only thing in Iraq worth anything. I'd tell the new Iraqi government, we'll protect your oil and you protect yourself. You'd be amazed at how fast someone will move when they're getting shot at. I'd also move about 75,000 troops along the Iran-Iraq border and tell Iran please send us the target practice, because we now have a no-fly zone along the border and anything that comes across will get shot down or shot up. I'd send the surge of 20K troops to Afghanistan and post a lot them along the border of Iran, and say we have a no-fly zone here too.

Hardy Hardy:
US: Possibly better healthcare, but only if you are able to spend over $500/mo. for a family. You can get some coverage for as little as $300 a month, but it will be no better than what you have in Canada for free, and you can expect things like paying the first $500-$1500 per year out of pocket, and never more than 10 minutes at a time with your doctor. Without coverage, expect to pay $300 to see a doctor (with an appointment), $800-$2000 to visit the emergency room, and $50 for an average prescription.
US: warmer. Sometimes too damned hot. Beautiful beaches, but if you can afford to live near ones which aren't overly crowded, you probably can't find the time to go to them.
US: Better Mexican food. Period.

-Just to offer another perspective: I pay around $20 per month for single employer-sponsored coverage. For family coverage it'd be less than $75. I have a $30 copay each time I go to the doctor, no deductible for office visits. They last longer than 10 minutes, if needed. (Maybe I just have a really good doc.) I do have a deductible if I need surgery. I don't have to pick a certain doctor, they just have to be with my insurance company. I do go the same one, though, for consistency's sake.

Some cities have ERs that will see people with no insurance for emergency care for less than what you've quoted. But in my city it's a specific hospital, not just any emergency room. Question: Does Canada have Instacare centers? (Small, emergency care centers staffed 24/7, not attached to a hospital). Do you even need them, or does the ER/hospital handle everything not done in a Dr's. office?

Edited to ask this question: do insurance concerns ever factor into job/schooling decisions? It factors into every decision I make regarding job/schooling. I am envious of your position in these matters. (Or at least my perception of your position.)

-I will agree with you on the warmer and better Mexican food. :D But I have had better Chinese food in Canada than anywhere in my state. Period. :D

-I just ate a dark chocolate Kit Kat a Canadian friend sent to me. We don't have these and they are delicious. When it comes to sugary treats, especially maple and chocolate, Canadian is much better in my opinion. More flavor than just "sugar." Ketchup potato chips, I love those, wish I could get them here, but they don't travel well. Peach Extra gum: I buy packs and packs to bring back with me, can't get that here either.

-I think Canadian men are very charming and I have not met one yet I don't get a little crush on. They are few and far between in my part of Texas, maybe that is why they stand out to me. But they make me laugh like no other and are just very cute. :)

These are less serious reasons obviously :), but still things I think of when I think of Canada. :)

It's too hard to get airsoft guns in Canada. Stupid laws make them expensive as hell too. The government is slowly killing an awsome sport in Canada.

I'll supply one...

Going back to Military for a second (but keeping in mind this isn't "in case of a war who would win" ...)

The US has a FAR superior Military.

HOWEVER

I have also heard from people who are IN the US Military, that Canada's military has far superior requirements & training, and that a very large portion of the US Military, likely wouldn't pass our requirements and/or training.

There's pros & cons to both of those I guess.

I agree that the training is different but i think it depends on what branch because i know air force and navy might have a hard time compared to their training but when it comes to our marines and army i think it would be equivalent... i dont know i just know air force training was easy but i think they are trying to improve it... we are going to be a land fighting air force and stuff which makes sense in a way.
