Proculation Proculation:
For those who don't know: democrats officially won control of the senate too.
The democrat in Virginia won some hours ago.
Technically, they didn't.
The Senate is now 49 Dems, 49 GOP, and two Independents with one of those Independents (Lieberman) possibly swaying to the GOP - which remains to be seen.
So only if they keep the two declared Independents on board do the Dems take control next month.
They probably will, but I would not bet the farm on it.
Well considering that the other independent is a self-described socialist, i don't think he'll be voting with the Republicans.

My own opinion is that the House is dreadfully under manned and that we need to at least double or even triple the number of representatives in order to bring the House back to a more local level.
The average Rep. today represents more Americans than did the average Senator of 150 years ago.
I think you should have maybe 1200 reps? Maybe your senate could be expanded from 100 to 300? So 6 senators per state.
If you wanted the same representation as Canada your house of representatives would have about 2800 members and your senate would have roughly 895 members. I think you might need a new building then though

But still you are grossly under represented or having one person in charge of such large districts probably doesn't benefit everyone in them.
More members would cost more though or just pay them less but you then could have smaller districts that would reflect the people better. Even with a few extra senators it could make the difference for some people or give them more choices of people to elect or even open the door for a third party to move in.

even though, it's technically 49 senators for the dems, 49 for the GOP and 2 Independent,
Doesn't look like Lieberman will be swaying to the GOP anytime soon as both independents have declared they will be caucusing with the democrats.

The Democratic majority counts on the support of two newly elected independent senators, Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders, who have declared that they will caucus with the Democrats.
Figure that's why every news channel is calling it a win for the democrats in the senate
