Does Canada have a shortage of doctors?

And you think the universal healthcare system is the cause of that?

A fellow I went to university with I recently saw on TV advertising knee replacement surgery for Canadians living near in Michigan. He mentioned in the commercial that he was Canadian trained and was targeting Canadian clients who were in a massive knee replacement traffic jam in Canada. Universal health care drove him to the US for the money and lots of it. One would have to be out of their mind not to take the opportunity to earn a fortune for we all usually only get one kick at that can.
Another acquaintance, who recently graduated from medical school and is practising in Ontario said that he is paid $68 to make the rounds at a local old age residence. He said that a TV repair tech will not even show up a the front door for less than $90 let alone the cost of repair.
So yes, the doctor shortage is related to the socialization of the health care system.
Huh, I have a different opinion on that one...
I think there is a shortage of doctors globally, and that it has nothing to do with how the system is...

Well, funny thing is... I live in a small town (2500 people, if we have that...) and we have 4 family doctors here. The regional hospital has no shortage of doctors as far as I know, but is always asking for nurses...
oh, fyi... I live 10 kms from the US border...

I stood outside a clinic with a fractured ankle for about an hour@20 below before finally getting inside and seeing all the people in there waiting for doctor's note's.
Next day I went to the hospital and waited all day to get it set. Some drunk kid came in to triage and they had to look at his bruise first.

another racist comment from kenny what a surprise.
I think I would move to Ontario or Quebec if I was terminally ill and wanted private health care those Liberal gov'ts did a lot to advance PHC.

Canada is ranked 30th in the world. Not sure if that's considered one of the best. Of those three parties you've listed only the NDP has a serious plan to do anything about healthcare. Don't kid yourself Kenmore the Liberals had their chance and they did nothing.

Ya, damn I'm stuck up here in Canada.
That sucks.
I'm not going to disparage the US. Its a great place to live and if you are happier there then fill your boots.
I'll just say that any Canadian disparaging us is not only welcome to leave but encouraged.
I'm happy here. Thats what counts. You sort your own life out and in the end your criticism of Canada won't interfer one single bit with my life up here.
On yer bike mate.
