I must sadly admit that this is true. The socialist bug has bitten the country. We'll be bailing out companies and reckless homeowners. Inflation will be rampent and tax the poor and honest people. Will we learn our lessen? I think so. It'll take 4 years of Obama and an ass-kicking of the neo-cons out of the Republican party. I think its doable.

   

Bailing out the failed greeheads is NOT socialism! It's corporate welfare.

   

Amazing how many of the most virulent anti-socialists don't have a clue what socialism even is. They're stuck in cliche mode.

If you're an Western old-timer, you're in the unique history where the principle that if the market can't supply a ferry, a telephone company, a damn, a hydro line and the people need it, it was done as a Crown Corp. By the very people who fought against 'socialism' every election!
A far better method than just handing public cash to an existing corporation to monopolize everything.

   

Any time the government steps in is socialism. I dare you to find an example of socialism where government doesn't do this.

Well, I agree with the general sentiment, I’m not sure if you can realistically say that life is better up here.

An unscientific approach I’ve taken is just my observations on my annual trips to the in-laws place in St Pete’s Fla.

Everything, I mean everything is cheaper there.
Houses, food, gas, cars, booze, going out, clothes, and in my particular case, camera gear. I bought $2800 US worth of gear which would have cost me $5200 at Henry’s. Same stuff made in Japan, just way more expensive in Canada.

You guys ever go clothes shopping in the US? Dirt cheap compared to here.

Vehicles are still 25-30% cheaper in the US.
Same vehicles but “Canadian” prices. As in way more expensive.
Easy enough to check out on the web as we pat each other on the back…..

I’ll go along with this article when Canadian stores are at least as competitive as US stores and when I notice an influx ( more than a point percentage) of Yanks moving north for the Canadian dream I might give this article some credibilty.
MacLeans is hardly unbiased on US-Canada stuff.

   

I don't think Canada "stole" the American dream. It has its own dream, the Canadian dream I'd say. We have our own too. We need to get back on track, with Bush out of power soon I think Obama can steer our country in the right direction.

But that's off-topic.

   

Canada didn't steal the American dream, we surrendered our hopes and ambition so we'd feel just a little more secure and safe in the arms of this huge government we made. Over-taxed, over-governed and over regulated from the cradle to the grave.

As proof of that, we can reflect on every single Caandian who had to leave Canada to make it big. From Robertson, Garand to nearly any actor/comedian you can name. We're a fountain head of talent but it's meaningless unless we see it on the big screen.

   

Please prove me otherwise. Hell even corporate welfare is socialism. A free market economy would of let these bad businesses fail.
