Gangrenous Gangrenous:
Okay, I wanted to bump this thread up again. I don't know how many of you guys ever follewed this thread from the beginning, but some of you know I've had alot of problems with US immigration. Some of you have told me I told you so, some of you said what are you thinking, and some have said who cares. I'd like to tell you what is happening now and perhaps ask for some advice.

Since my origonal ordeal over a year ago and finally being allowed return into the US I have applied for permanent residency. I've had a job here since august last year and doing quite well. I finally had my interview with immigration this week and did not do so well. Basically if my wife does not prove that she will be under EXTREME HARDSHIP if I leave, I will be deported. This cannot in anyway mean financial hardship as this is not considered extreme. From the way it was explained to us by the guy at immigration, the only way to prove extreme hardship is by proving my wife can't live without me. This does not include money, or personal feelings. So really, what does that leave, and how do we prove it?

This may not seem like a big deal to most, but the way he was talking and the way he explained things to us, he basically told me to leave now before I wasted his time.

I'm kind of at odds right now. I love my wife very much and her kids are wonderful, we get along great and have alot of fun. I thought I was in a hard place before, and everyone's support here really helped me. When I was having problems before I atleast had a plan, a route to follow, but now I'm lost. I have no idea what to do, except to hire an attorney that I can't afford.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent guys, and thanks for listening, those of you who have for so long.

It sucks, I know because I got screwed pretty badly by U.S. immigration a few years back. Since the immigration laws changed in 1996 it's just become an unbelievable hassle, and since the economic slowdown and the events of 9/11 it seems they now routinely throw the book at otherwise deserving Canadians {indeed even ones 'painted' black :P}.

Don't waste your money on a lawyer as it will get you nowhere but broke.

That really sucks, Gangrenous. I think I've expressed this before, but move your wife and new kids up here. Either that or wait for things to change. Things might begin to change after November.

Your situation really sucks. But you probably should have named your post more specifically. Something like "How disguisted I am with American immigration" or "US immigration policy sucks" but, you can't be too disgusted with America especially since you have what 2.2million real Americans don't, employment.

Okay, wrong answer friend. I thought I was pretty clear about this post from the beginning, which you apparently haven't read. Let me make a few points for you......

1. Most importantly, I'm disgusted with America, not just immigration.
2. It took me 6 months to find a job here, and then it was a shit labouring job with a roofing company.
3. It's taken me this long to be recognized as a valued employee with such company and has raised my status.
4. I had a wonderful job in Canada but was forced to look for one here because I love my wife very much and there was no choice for her to move to Canada.
5. I don't give one FUCK about 2.2 million Americans who can't find a job. That isn't my problem.

As I said in my most resent post, those that have followed it from the beginning understand what I am talking about. I'm sorry if I have a poor attitude right now (and RH feel free to edit), but if you have no constructive thoughts for me, fuck the hell off!!!!!!!

Actually, I did read your post from the beginning and I agreed that your situation was extremely stupid. You made it back to the US, OK good for you. And you stayed in a country that you obviously loathe for love and, which is extremely admirable. All im saying is that you are allowed to live and work in a country that disgust you, and I sincerely hope that you can convince your wife to move back to Canada with you someday. We all as human beings deserve to be happy with where we live.

PS. If my info had said Toronto instead of Missouri, USA, you probably would have seen something constructive out of the fact that your situation was still better than a lot of Americans. Even if the job isn't up to your standards. But still it's done, all of the best to you and too your family.

Gangrenous @ Mon Apr 12, 2004 7:06 pm

You are entitled to your opinion, but I still don't think you understand my position. I don't hate it here. If I had a choice, yes, I'd be in Canada. But I respect the fact that she has children already and wants to keep them in American schools. If I were in her shoes, I would want the same. I don't HATE anybody, but when I get mad, I get mad, and I vent, and I write alot of things and post them before I even proof read them.
The reason I started this thread and I keep bumping it up again is for 3 reasons. One, is it's a very good place for me to vent (in my mind). Two, is awareness, I want EVERYONE to know how I'm being treated, whether its agreed upon or not, and three, I've found some good advice and friends while chatting about this problem.
I don't need any cheap digs about moving here cuz America has jobs and Canada doesn't, or anything else. I moved here for love and thats the bottom line. Thats what my posts are about whether filled with anger or not. And if I anger others I apologize, but thats just the way I am.......

RoyalHighlander @ Mon Apr 12, 2004 9:23 pm

Hey evcery one cut G some slack here OK? he came here to vent , get a bit of suport from his peers and hopefully maybe get some advice from some one who may have been through this BS and might be able to help him during this shit he's going through. He dont need anyone giving him more grief than he already has.. unless you have something either helpful or supportive to post about this.. leave it alone ...
