I find it extremely odd that Canadians get blasted when questioning the motives and actions of President George W. Bush. Personally, I think it stems from America's staunch dedication to the office of the president. Whenever a Canadian (or even some Americans) questioned the lengths to which Dubya is going to ensure security in the US, their patriotism is called into question, or in case of Canadians (or those from ANY foreign country) they're called Anti-American. I haven't been in the States many times (or for many years) so I'll put this question to the forum- Do Americans feel obligated to support Bush simply because of the office he represents? Is criticism of the government such a sin? I mean- I know that a lot of people sacrificed their lives for the country to have such a position elected by the people- but if the man is unfit, then why should one pledge their devotion to him and his agenda?
You have raised an important issue to which I don't know the answer but in my opinion, I think money-holders in the US really control the government and vice-versa.
Canada being the free country that it is , allows us the people of this great
nation of Canada to think and speak freely, unlike american,s we can can publicly voice disagrement with our nations leaders and not run the risk of being branded terrorist or enemys of the state . There is no freedom of any kind in america , like the former cocaine addict of a president G .Bush
said after the horrible tragidy of 9/11" you are with us or against us "
does that mean over a billion people in the world against american aggression are terrorist you tell me
long live CANADA [/b][/i]
I am an American and have yet to be branded a traitor for speaking my word. Please quit spewing about things in which you do not know. I vote and my vote counts just as much an the next. I know that there may be some disagreement with our system of government but it is still the best form of government in the world (Democracy).
I really don't think that because one crosses the magical line to the north into Canada all of the politicians become middle-class, honorable servants of the people any more than you crossing the evil line to the south would have you find nothing but rich, money grubbing, gangster politicians. It is only your opinion that the president is unfit. I am just fine with my president thank you. He isn't your leader and so you don't have to worry about him corrupting your perfectly honorable and just government.
As for the statement " There is no freedom of any kind in America" , this statement does not even require or deserve a response. Support your statement.
O.K.- I've had my morning pot of coffee. I appologize for my rant. But i still disagree.
Canadian government honorable and just...
Hey, IRONMIKE, sorry if any of my comments rubbed you the wrong way, it's just that the only time we hear anything about canada from America latley, it's when the American government (and some american people) question Canada's committment to the war on terror and so forth. Hell, Bush couldn't be bothered to comment on the 4 Canadian soldiers that his airplanes bombed. The reason I raised this question was because Canada can remain loyal to our head of state, and disapprove of our head of government- as they are two seperate people (Queen Elizabeth, and Jean Chretien respectivley). I know most of your complaints are directed towards the post made by suleyman, but I felt the need to make sure there is no confusion on my part. I do not question the motives of the American people, but rather, question whether or not certain people will refrain from voicing their concerns because they want to respect the office of the president of the united states, regardless of who occupies it.
Good points put forth here...
Tell me iron mike in a country where you are branded a traitor for not agreeing with the US goverment's foreign policies , and you can be inprisoned for 6 months without charge on suspicion of subversive activities, this is a free country ? I think not , and to respond to your statement about Canada's political leaders honesty and integrity Yes we do have morons in our political system like the american mouth piece steven harper, most likely the stupidest red neck in canada , you should make him a US citizen so he can join your political system , before g.bush, America was a good country and place of freedom . And by the way our Primeminister was never a drug addict or alcoholic. :
I am unable to reply to your claims without specific examples of these incidents.
I will tell you that I believe, in no place on earth is anyone entirely free. In the U.S. one would not be free to plot terrorist activities for example. I do believe this is a case where the freedom of my children to go to school without fear of a terrorist attack would outweigh the freedom of the person plotting the the murder of innocent civilians. If you consider that taking away someones freedom then I so be it. Obviously you and I do not agree on this issue
On another subject. Those who have never served with Canadians may not appreciate Canadian troops. I have seen all nationalities of troops in my career and the tops i've worked with are Canadian, Brit and (of course, US)
The rights of the many out weigh the rights of the few
That is some thing I totally agree with too...
Iron Mike I do not believe that you completely understand my point .Freedom of speech , association , view and mobility are things that are our fundamental rights , I am not endorsing any form of terrorism
infact i deplore it. what happened on Sepy 11th was a tragic incident which resulted in the senseless loss of life that benefitted no one .Perpetrated by a group of homicidal maniacs Claiming to represent Islam .What gets me is america goes out and shits on any country it wants to then installs a puppet goverment to do its bidding all in the name freedom and justice.
If that was the real motive behind US foreign policy , why did they not
remove saddam in the 80's while he was gassing Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq or slobodan milosovic when chetnik serbian thugs were killing and raping Muslim women and children in Bosnia , and dozens of other similar situations? What about Rwanda . You see my American friend your country's leaders believe in selective justice , I hope god helps the american people understand that your government is making a new enemy in a new country and History has shown us that every empire falls , the Romans , The Greeks , The british , The Ottomans , The Russians , do you think that America will be unstoppable forever?
americans were the first terrorists, remember the boston tea party? yup. that was an act of terrorism against your british pals.
We all drink from the same cup my friend . Good day.
