Mike,
You have to agree that Americans as a whole tend to support "the office of the president" in times of war, even if some secretly think he is wrong. I work with a lot of Americans and you wouldn't believe the things they have been spewing about Canada recently.
This is somewhat off the current topic of conversation but is anyone else irritated by the fact that the White House has rejected the three alternative dates for George W. to visit Canada? I'm not sure why this bugs me cause I don't like Bush but I'm not a fan of Cretien's either. I think it's just the possible underlying meaning. It's one thing for George to cancel the May 4th date because of the war but to reject all 3 other possible dates points to evidence that there is more of just a little strain between the leaders of the USA and Canada. The cold shoulder/silent treatment as it were because we didn't agree with his stance on the war. There is also the possibility that Bush won't come until there is a new PM in office...that could be good news or bad news depending on your perspective. Incidentally, the week George was too busy to meet in Canada he's scheduled to meet with members of the Australian government at his ranch...a government that very vocally supported Bush's charge into Iraq. I personally think it's more than just coincidence...I get the very distinct feeling of being black balled.
Just a thought...
What's irritating is that the media and sycophants make so much of it.
I say let him stay on his ranch. I don't understand people who crave the recognition of a retard.
It has nothing to do with craving attention from Georgey. It's symbolic, it's a snub that Canada is not important enough to be worth his time. I don't care if he ever goes to Canada...but I do care that the current attitude towards Canada by the US could effect trade and possibly the Canadian economy. And he leads the US...and what he says the American media repeats (at length) and in the end the majority of the American people follow.
Somehow I think Canada will be o.k. without a visit from Herr Bush . It'll take time for tensions to ease in light of all that's transpired . Last I heard , the Canadian economy was doing pretty good , whereas the U.S. economy is still in bad shape .
I think it would benifit Canada to invest more in the G7 nations other than the US. This would result in them investing more in us and a big circle of investment happiness would start.
Absolutely. We need to diversify and reduce dependence on one market.
President George W Bush anounced today that there is no reason for any Amercan to be worried about the West Nile Virus.
"Just do what I did - get someone to load you with both Norton AND MacAffee." He said.
LMAO
With the republican party in power, especially the monkey thats running them now, I dont see Canadian\US relations getting better. Traditionally, Canada has worked well with the democrats as long as the Conservatives werent in power here. As for diversifying the economy, since Chretein came into power, he has done something extremely significant for our country, but is left unrecogized.
Chretein has gone to China, the next super power we should suck up to, as well as Europe to try to stir up trade with these countries. We went from the US having almost 80% of trade with Canada, to 70% since Chretein took over. Remember, it is extremly tough to get good trade with China or Europe because shipping fees will most definetly be more expensive since we are in a completely different continent.
However, the liberals have done a lot more in terms of following a trade plan that see's Canada diversifying foreign investments and trade. This may be in part because the Liberals have had such a strangle hold on governing Canada and is able to follow a single plan with out much deviation since no one else came into power to change the plan (I guess it is one disadvantage of democracy, no stability except in Canada's case)
Also, keep in mind George W. Bush is being stoubborn cause his conservative ass doesnt know when and when not to change. For the good of America, the United States government MUST maintain adequete relations with Canada. Why? Because not only is the United States Canada's more important trading partner, Canada is the best trading partner to the United States as well. 27% of trade by the United States is with Canada, The next nation they trade with most isnt even a nation, it is a collection of nations, Europe. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the United States to maintain good trade relations with Canada.
Chretien has spoken the view of his party, despite its opposition to the United States, I am proud because for the first time, I feel Canada is more sovereign than ever. No longer allowing the Bushies to bully us around like they do with other G7 countries. Outside of him speaking his view, he has tried to maintain good relations with the US, cant say the same about Bush who doesnt seem to want anything to do with us.

I doubt Bush could even find Canada on a map. He doesn't know we're here unless we piss him off. Some Canadians see that as a sign we should be very careful not to piss him off. I see it as reason to kick Bush in the ribs every time we get a chance.
Call it anti-American if you want but I didn't feel that way about Clinton, or even George's dad. I just hope the American people will get rid of this prick before they learn to hate him the way we learned to hate Mulroney.
Lousy first post there buddy... try again now but clean it up, and no comments about assassinations ok?

Yeah,
The democrats are great. What I call taxes they call "investments". Clinton survived on the good economy due to the natural cycle of things and their "surplus" was my hard earned dollars taken from me for "investments" (they taxed the shit out of us). Thanks but I think I would prefer to keep the dollars that I earned and invest them my way.
There is no doubt that the war and the response to 9-11 has put a big hit on our "investments" but any republican, democrat or independent would be in the same bag right now due to the previously mentioned events and the normal economic cycle.
As for his sexual preference...I wouldn't know. But it sure is good to have a president who will not deface and disgrace the Office of the President of the United States of America, both figuratively and literally.
Good day all
IronMike
I think as you learn more about Bush you'll come to understand what disgracing the Oval Office is really all about, IronMike. He and his cabinet have narrowly skirted a couple of major criminal investigations now. A lot of that is probably because of their secrecy. His management of your economy is terrible...it was before 9/11 and has gotten worse.
As for taxes...somebody has to pay the bills, IronMike. Bush is borrowing like junkie with a fool-proof plan. He's spending like a trophy wife with a coke habit. When he's gone and the democrats get back in and decide to pay the bills he ran up, remember that.
