Hello. Out of curiosity, has there ever been a time in history in which the US and Canada were enemies?

   

Since day one.

   

Since 1867, no. But if you count the time Canada was a British colony, there was, of course, the War of 1812. There was also the Seven Years' War (aka the French-Indian War) which ended in 1763.

   

Didn't the Americans also raid Montreal in 1776? I remember hearing something along the lines of Americans crossing the border into Canada...

   

The Fenians did, although they were an independent organization, not really affiliated with the governement

   

Ah, right the Fenians. Those were the Irish who believed that by raiding Canada, it would distract the British from Ireland, right?

   

Get enough Irish stout in ya and you'll believe just aboot anything!

   

The French Indian War wasn't an American Canadian conflict it was a spill over from the the British and French rivalry in Europe. The American colonists were British at the time and fought in colonial militias. Many of them and their kin left the colonies after the American Declaration of Independence and formed the core of what was to become Upper Canada (Ontario).

The War of 1812 again was not an American Canadian thing as Canada, nor a Canadian identity really existed at the time. The majority of conflicts were between American and British forces with the colonial militias of the Upper and Lower Canada only playing minor roles. Sorry romanticysts we didn't take on the Yanks single handed and burn their White House. However as a Westerner I'm torn about their burning of York (Toronto). Could you do it again so I can sort out my true feelings about the matter?

The Fenians were a minor problem after the American Civil War. Which reminds me of a joke I read......

Yes, I'm joking. I don't hate everything in it. Hell, we all have something to dislike about a place that totally oppresses us. I atleast hate my town for it's NeoRight-WIngism and the fact it wishes it were Calgree. And I hate Winnipeg (and area surrounding) for being totally full of pot-heads and crack-heads and criminals. Seriously, we had to get our of there.... Lovely province, mind you cold, and bugs, but the drugs and the people.... Engh. I love BC and Saskatchewan perfectly, haven't spent enough time in Saskachewan to form a negitive opinion... and BC.... Beautiful. "Beautifully Canadian".....

I actually just hate the West for it's Anti-Liberalism and 100% hate for Ontario. Even the Liberals here hate Ontario and Ottawa.... It's all about Calgree. How I hate Calgree.

Sometimes I wonder? WHY AM I HERE. What did I do to god to be placed in a town that humps the city I hate the most (in Canada, atleast) and hates everything I believe in and the very place I wish to be in?
