The North American ID card is nothing more than an attempt to keep track of everybody all the time, Dan. Every agency, government and not, concerned about privacy that has looked at thing has said that it threatens our rights and freedoms.

   

I agree with Rev_Blair. The ID card is not meant to make your life easier. The minds who think this stuff up would happily implant a computerized id chip in your forehead.

The way to solve the border problems is for Canada to respond in kind. If it takes two to three hours to cross going south, then it should take as much time coming north. If the Americans are going to fingerprint Canadians, then Canada should fingerprint Americans. Certainly, Canada should have a zero tolerance to any American caught bringing a gun into Canada. They should be thrown into jail and tried as terrorists. Their cars, motor homes and all other possesions should be confiscated. When released, they should be deported and listed with Interpol as high risk.

The same with trade issues. If the Americans ban Canadian beef, then Canada should ban American beef. Ditto wood and wood products. Etc.

Canada has to stand up to the American bully.

   

Canada has to re-negotiate 'free' trade.

   

Waste of time Robair they don't honour the good deal they have now.

   

NAFTA doesn't really need to be renegotiated. It has been of no advantage to us over the previous system, so simlpy shutting it down would be fine.

I am not talking about a micro chip in your brain or a card with a tracking system with a satellite watching every move.I mean a lil card that gets my ass across the border.The idea of stalling the border on our side just makes it a pain in the ass for the truck driver's that cross the border for Canadian companies to the states.Its not like there is a checkpoint at every state or highway entrance.

   

Yes. That little card is being hyped as something to get you across the border. What's wrong with a passport? It used to be that any id would suffice. That little card is not for your benefit; it's to make it easier for the American gestapo.

As to blocking up the border, we only need to stop American traffic. BTW, Brazilians started fingerpringing all Americans last year; tit for tat.

I cross the border a lot. Never had a problem. Once you do it a couple times, you know what documents they need where and if you've got 'em ready you pretty much walk right through.

And I'm a 20 something single male. The most suspect group of them all.

So the card thing to make it easier to cross the border doesn't make sense to me.

   

Some people have problems, some don't. I have been in a lot of countries and the worst border crossing is always the US. They always hastle me. And, I'm too old to be a security risk; at least in my eyes.

Nope, just don't like sliding down slippery slopes. This card was originally proposed as a Canadian identity card that would replace your health card, driver's license, etc. Pretty much an internal passport for all of North America.

The US government didn't even seriously discuss it though...they knew people would tell them to F-off. They still pushed us to have it. So it was softened up. Landed immigrants needed one, but citizens didn't. Now there's a "voluntary" one, but if you're a trucker you have to have one.

It's being pushed on us with the same old excuse, trade is king and we have no say. Fuck that. Make the Americans use a card to get into Canada or maybe we won't be able to trade with them anymore.

   

You bet. If we make them as uncomfortable as they make us, maybe they will back off.

   

Canada losing the U.S trade would destroy our economy.Yes it would really hurt them but us a hell of alot worse.Now before you get on the "They need us more than we need them"rant.Stop and think about it before your prejudice sets in.About twothirds of our trade goes to them.And with the exception of water and hydro the rest could be found in Mexico or Centrel America.Yes we could find other markets but the only companies that would survive the change would be large corperations that could afford the extra charge for the distance of delievery.
I know a large portion of you all hate the U.S for its goverment but don't let that cloud the fact we need them.

   

I've heard international relations being described in similar terms to regular relationships: "One nation just trying to screw another". Every nation wants the others to buy their stuff while not having to buy anyone elses stuff. I just think it sucks that we sell the Americans our trees then we buy them back as finished products. If we could fix problems like that, we would be in much better financial shape
