Rick Mercers apology to the USA
Rev_Blair Rev_Blair:
In his new show Mercer talks to Canadians on the street all the time. He talks to politicians, he talks to people walking by on the street, he goes to universities. When he came here he went out to Lockport and talked to ice-fishermen.
What do you want Johnny? If you don't like the answers the Americans gave, then start a campaign to teach Americans more about Canada.
When does he talk to Canadians on the street? Does he make fun of them and make them look as stupid as he made every American look? Does he make it look like every Canadian is completely stupid like he made Americans look?
Even if he does talk to fellow Canadians, I still don't find it right to portray a whole country as being a bunch of idiots. You might not agree, probably because you don't like the US, and any Canadian would find this stuff funny because they view the US different, but I'm sure the second an American makes a show called "talking to Canadians" there will be hell to pay from Canadians.
Mercer doesn't make those Americans look stupid, Johnny...they do that themselves. He also showed the little kid that said something like, "Hey, wait a second, Canada has provinces not states."
Canadians know that all Americans aren't stupid enough to believe that there's a rhino hunt in Alberta. A lot of us have met Americans that do think there's a rhino hunt in Alberta, or that we all live in gloos, or that we don't have electricity or jets. We find that offensive because we are your closest neighbour, your biggest trade partner, and a long-time ally. Because we find that offensive we make fun of it. Mercer picked up on that.
The whole thing became a lot funnier when he got your president (just before he was elected) to believe that our PM's name was "Poutine" because Georgie is an idiot and represents the worst parts and instincts of the US.

I think the American public has become smarter....

I wonder what Americans you have met who think that Canada doesn't have jets and such. I mean, if you take a trip to a trailer park in the US you might find some people who don't know, but since alot of Americans business's do business with Canada, there's alot of Americans who know Canada is basically the same as the US with respects to commerce and industry. Everyone I knew in the US knew most of the things on that show was bullshit. What that guy did was take all the stupidest people he found, put them into one show, and make it a representation of the US, thus making all Americans look stupid. He asks them misleading questions, acting like he's a Canadian news reporter. Think about it, a news reporter comes up and asks you about something you don't know anything about, but makes it like it's true, and asks you what your opinion is on it. Do you know how many times in the US I have gone to malls and had people come up and ask me to do a survey? Now, that doesn't discount alot of the other people, but some of the things he asked were misleading with the purpose to make the person look like a fool. Since the show is called talking to Americans, it's suppose to be a representation of what Americans know.
I think when I have the time I'm going to make a show called "talking to African-Americans" and go around making them look like the stupidest people on the planet. I mean, if it's okay to make Americans look stupid, I think I will pick on african-americans. I'm sure no one will have a problem with that, I mean it's okay to make all black people look stupid. Think about the stereotypes this type of show would create for people who are easily influenced by what they see on Tv.
Sure, there's alot of things in the Canadian culture that Americans would not be aware of, but for the most part, all the people I have known there have known that Canada is like the US in alot of ways. I mean, any culture you go to might not know all the special little things about your culture.
He talked to movie actors, politicians, college students, and professors, Johnny. Not exactly trailer trash.
Get over it Johnny It's a joke. Do you know what a joke is.......you know....hahahahahaha.....A JOKE
What is all comes down to is Comedy like they say and the americans in typical fashion "Know everything" so they will answer any question wether they know it or not. They are an ignorant people and hes cashing in on them....plus its damn halrious...like really? would you find a canadian that would think someone in seattle pumbles animals with donuts??? Of course not were not stupid
errrr.....
Rick Mercer didn't say this stuff, Colin Mochrie was the one who said all this stuff on an episode of 22 minutes close to a year ago if not more. Colin would be like in front of the White House and say "sorry we burned down your White House". Ya, this is Colin Mochrie's material.

Our feelings toward America are complex, but they can be summed up in the following five (5) axiomatic propositions of Canadian Nationalism vis-a-vis the Americans:
Boy, we hate Americans.
We really do.
Really.
I'm not kidding. We really hate them.
So how come they never pay us any attention?
You people are ridiculous. The second anyone says any bad things about Canada, you are all up in their face pulling stats out of your ass on why you are better, but the second an American has a problem with a show that shows Americans to be stupid morons, you all are defending it and saying how it's just comedy. To me, it's not just comedy, but a building of the stereotype already out there. The second anyone would make a show that shows Canadians as being stupid morons, I know you all would be pulling stats out your ass and bashing the US for making it. Why is it so wrong that I have a problem with a movie which shows my home country in this way? You all act like my opinion doesn't count because to you every American is stupid. That's just wrong. The Americans in that special don't represent everyone in the US, and that Rick Mercer guy is an Idiot. Let me have my opinion which I gained from watching the show. I don't like any show which enforces stereotypes and negative points of view of another people.

Rick Mercer started thos Segments talking to Americans on this hour has 22 minutes like 3-4 years ago. So why are you guys saying it was Colins? he's just following in Rick Mercer's foot steps.
Bush when talking to Mr Mercer stated:
Canada is America's favorite country to the North of us.
Or somethng to that effect.
Hopefully if there is any further squabbling between the two countries Bush will invade one of the other countries to the North of the US.
