Rick Mercers apology to the USA

This is hillarious. I have never seen so many hate mongers posting comments. It's Canada and the US having it's own little verbal war. It's quite an entertaining read. has quite a few misinformed opinions from both sides of the border. It's worth a look

I think the sad thing is that Rick Mercer makes his career by making fun of Americans. To each his own I suppose, but what do you expect. If an American posted the same thing, saying "I'm sorry our this is better" and so on, you have to know that Canadians would be up in there telling him all the things they have done and all the things they are better than Americans at. Rick Mercer is just some arrogant person who likes to patronize people. Sure it can be funny, but when you look at the root of what he does, he's no better than the people he makes fun of....
....and please save the attacks and such, because I'm not trying to piss anyone off, it's just my opinion. I've seen talking to Americans and so on, and heard him on the radio, and I should be able to draw my own opinions.
If you are able to draw your own conclusions, you should likely have said that Rick Mercer makes his living making fun of people. He goes after Canadians, especially the politicians just as hard as he goes after Americans, Johnny.

So he made a show called talking to Canadians? He makes apologies to Canadians? How much does he make fun of Canadians compared to Americans.
Looking at his work from 22 Minutes all the way up to the season ender of his new show, I'd say that about 90% of his material is about Canadians. Most of it is political, but he doesn't pick sides there either.

Yeah, he doesn't paint average Canadians to be braindead morons like Americans though, does he? I don't really watch his stuff other than talking to Americans. I don't think he's that funny. I give him credit for making Bush look like a fool though(of course that's not that hard to do).
Actually he does exactly that, Johnny. He can't do it the same way here because we all know who he is, but he points out our ignorances every chance he gets.

Some examples please....

Like Rev said, if you watch 22 minutes you will see. Every skit is making fun of Canadians from different parts of the country. I.e. The guy from moosjaw, the quintuplets and that mom and son from Newfoundland. I mean itÂ’s a riot, IÂ’m from Newfoundland and donÂ’t get offended when they do those skits. The entire cast of 22 minutes is from Newfoundland yet they make fun of Newfoundland/Newfoundlanders as much or more then anyone. Canadians know how to poke fun at themselves. The 22 minutes cast does a ton of stuff about politics too. I canÂ’t remember when I saw the cast making fun of the USA, itÂ’s a Canadian show poking fun at CanadiansÂ…and by god I love it.

Making skits about Canadians stereotypes is one thing, going around and talking to real Americans and making them all look like stupid morons is another, in my opinion. Americans have skits that make fun of themselves as well, so this isn't just a Canadian thing in knowing how to poke fun at yourself. What Rick Mercer did with talking to Americans, is went around the US and made it look like every American is just a plain moron.
Don't get me wrong, Jay Leno does the same thing, but he actually asks question that someone could possibly miss. This Rick Mercer guy asks the most common sense, easy questions, and put on film the most stupid people, with an agenda in mind, I think. I think he wanted to portray Americans as just plain dumb people who are inferior in intelligence. Some things were funny, but that is all I basically got out of his special. He talked to real people, it wasn't little funny skits.
In his new show Mercer talks to Canadians on the street all the time. He talks to politicians, he talks to people walking by on the street, he goes to universities. When he came here he went out to Lockport and talked to ice-fishermen.
What do you want Johnny? If you don't like the answers the Americans gave, then start a campaign to teach Americans more about Canada.
