I don't know if world domination is what Bush and Cheney had in mind...

Type "PNAC" or "Project for a New American Century" into Google, TheChick. You won't wonder anymore, but you'll be a hell of a lot more nervous.

Without Canada, the US is...how do I say this politely? Buggered. We are their largest trading partner. We supply not just the lion's share of their oil, which could be imported fairly easily from other countries, but their natural gas and electricity, which are notoriously hard to transport because they require massive infrastructure. We could destroy their economy by shutting those things down. No energy, no industry.

We also supply many of the raw materials their industry (and Mexico's industry, which the US is also massively dependent on) needs to keep operating.

I'm not advocating a trade war or a shooting war, but it is time that we gave our six months notice to get the hell out of NAFTA and called together all of the countries in the Americas, including Cuba to a meeting to pound out a trade deal that is fair and equitable to everybody. That deal would have be held in the open, exclude CEOs and other business people, and be based on expanding wealth and human rights for everybody.

Go ahead and put in your 6 months notice, and watch both of our economies go down. Really smart idea, let's just stop trading with the Americans, because we don't need them at all. Man, sometimes you sound smart, but what you are saying you want to do no good. Hell, since Canada doesn't need the US at all, I guess you could find someone else to buy 2/3 of your exports. I'm sure places like Mexico or other countries could afford it. You have to think, if it was affordable and profitable to trade with Europe more, wouldn't Canada be doing it? You all benefit alot from your trade with the US. You make it sound like Canada get's nothing from the US, and that the US is this completely barren land, which Canada is helping out because the US is third world. Just because you give us raw materials and oil doesn't mean that the US give's nothing to you. The US exports capital goods, automobiles, industrial supplies and raw materials, consumer goods, agricultural products while Canada imports machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and parts, crude oil, chemicals, electricity, durable consumer goods, alot of which comes from the US, actually, to be precise 62.2% of which. Once you decide you are going to play baby, and start being all high and mighty and kick the US out, and decide to start a trade war(which will happen if you do what you propose)you will ruin the status que, and who know's what might happen, because it's taking a risk. It could put great tensions on the US and Canada, and it could hurt both of our economies a great deal. Most European nations don't even trade with Canada, and trade mainly with each other and the US. Third world nations don't have the money the US does to buy as many exports from Canada as the US does.

Please tell me why you think it's so smart to suddenly shake everything up when Canada is at present a G8 nation? Fine, go ahead and cut off trade with the US, hurting 1/5 of US trade and business, while you hurt 2/3 of Canada's exports and such. I suggest you go to www.cia.gov, look up the world factbook, and check who Canada trades with, and see how much it will effect Canada if they start playing baby and asking to change policies which benefit them.

Rev_Blair @ Fri May 07, 2004 8:15 pm

You should try actually reading what I wrote, Johnny. I didn't say that we should stop trading with the US, I said that we should walk up to the table as equals and negotiate a deal, along with other nations, that was fair and equitable for everyone and took human rights into account. Canadians are constantly being told that we do not have the power to do that. We are being lied to.

The deal we have right now is not fair or equitable for any except for a few robber barons that control things. They are the ones doing the lying, and they have no nation. Their only loyalty is to cash. They are scum...pirates, mercenaries, vicious morons.

If all these people want is money and so on, then why do you care, unless you are concerned about money yourself. How is NAFTA hurting you? Canada has a trade surplus, and I don't see how NAFTA is hurting them so bad, and you know they didn't have to agree to it, but they did, and that's that. Who's being treated as an un-equal, please give me some facts showing how Canada is being royally screwed by this deal.

I suppose softwood lumber subsidizing is fair, right? IF the US was forcing Canadians to do this and that, and Canada had no say in the deal, why would the softwood lumber issue have been ruled in favor of Canada, and why would Canada still be able to subsidize on their lumber? Those tariffs sure are in accordance with Nafta, right? You all just get screwed so bad when you walk up to the table, tell the US to treat you as equals, but ignore the softwood lumber tariffs.

I can give you a bunch more links when you are done with these, Johnny.

It isn't just Canada, it's the world, although Canada has suffered under Bush (look up softwood lumber and the Canadian Wheat Board if you need proof of that...maybe read some of Mel Hurtig's stuff too). The world includes the US too...a lot of your small businessmen and farmers, as well as working people have seen their wages shrink under these trade deals as well. Canada, as a nation with a tradition of multilateralism, is in a position to do something about this. The problem is that we have the same pig-fucking greed-hogs in charge that you do...ours just haven't reached the point of openly killing children for money yet.

Well it didn't sound like you were against the whole Nafta thing from the start, just biased against the US. Now, you might not believe me, but I agree and have somewhat the same point of view as you, that the world is fucked up, but I realise there's so many herd animal people and stupid people that there's not much I can do unless I resort to osama methods, because no matter how much info you put out there, the media has grown to the point that so many stories conflict and that there's different information everywhere. Can't trust anyone.

Rev_Blair @ Fri May 07, 2004 10:47 pm

I'm biased against imperialism, Johnny. It isn't just the US and it isn't just trade. I'm biased for people deciding their own fates and will actively oppose those who do not want people to do that. You've seen me complain about Bush. You've seen me complain about Stephen Harper and Martin too. You've seen me be accused of being pro-Osama and pro-Saddam for daring to say that one tyrant is no no better than the next.

Do the research, Johnny. I know that you don't trust anybody. I get it, okay? Now go out there and decide what you think and do it for real reasons...because you've looked and learned and considered and made up your own mind. If that means you have to go see for yourself, then go see.

You may not want to trust anyone, but you can trust yourself and stand up for your own decisions. There is no shortage of information out there.

Nugga_Nu @ Tue May 11, 2004 11:16 am

Rev Blair, no offence, but you've gotta be the most brainwashed, politically correct commie I've ever encountered. Remember socialism almost always ends up in a Killing fields. It's sick, to see how completely unable you are to think for yourself. Read the Toronto Star much?? You certainly could write a column for them.

Rev_Blair @ Tue May 11, 2004 3:18 pm

No offense Nugga, but that's the most ignorance I've seen packed into one paragraph since the last time I read one of Karra's posts.

You obviously don't know much about socialism in democratic countries and have no idea of its history in Canada. You obviously don't know much about me either, Nugga.

No offense though, I'm sure you'll figure things out eventually. When you start thinking for yourself.

"I hate america" By Joe Vampire - an american (the only smart one)

I Hate America
Conditioned from birth to believe that we
Are the best
Care only about yourself and
Fuck the rest
Told to pledge allegiance to
A piece of cloth
So stand up, say the words
Without another thought

I hate America

We sit around the TV enraptured
By the news
I find it sad because it censors
Other views
But that's okay because our
Attention's bad
Just another way to keep us happy
Where we're at

I haven't even touched the settlers
Of this land
Who decimated an entire race but no one
Gives a damn
Except for those few who remain
To this day
Descendents of the once pround natives
Of the USA
