After belonging to CKA for a few months now I am beginning to understand the Americans a little better. But I gotta tell ya I do not think I could cheer the American Anthem during a hockey .It just is not in me to do that.Of course if it were the Olympics and Canada was some how out of it (.God willing that wont happen again) And the States were playing Russia. For the meadle I would root for em but nope cant cheer the Americans If Boston was playing my Oilers.
Why would anybody cheer the anthem of another country?
Why wouldn't you just shut up.
...the bandwagon is easy to find, please enter on the LEFT!!!...What's the solution to it, Book? Lots of anti-American one- liners, no actual solutions? And Rev, my wife wears the Maple-leaf at hockey games, I wear the stars & stripes. I'm Canadian, she's American, & when some poor dick shits on me or her for it, we roar! If you only knew how hard it was NOT to choke some dumb-ass American or some drunk Canadian for swearing at a jersey! Its our little fucking joke. Don't shit on EITHER Country, there both pretty good!
OK, I have been neglecting other things. After that wonderful post by SS I feel entitled to swear a little in this post.
Damn it man. Did you not read what I said??? I didn't say boo another country's anthem. I said if you don't like it, just shut up.
Perhaps you should articulate yourself better, bookie, but I see we're all on the same page on this one. Kinda boring when we all agree, now isn't it. Better when the blood boyles and the slander slashes and the insults injure, right bookie.
Oh, for the record, I wear a Leafs jersey and with Pride I might add.
Frankly, I don't believe you.
I still want to know why you'd cheer the anthem of another country. I never said anything about booing and really couldn't give a flying fuck who wins the next hockey game.
Anthems aren't known for being snappy tunes, so why would you cheer another country's anthem?
I wouldn't boo another countries anthem either, I just said I wouldn't take my hat off.
Cheering another countries anthem is a matter of interpretation, but to stand and, yes, at least applaud is simply a sign of respect and courtesy. Same as I'm not going to drive through a funeral procession, even if the guy IS a complete stranger.
...betcha comrade REV finds the Russian national anthem pretty catchy, right Rev? Never heard the Cuban national anthem though, hum a few bars, REV...actually, I have, rather than delete & start over, I'll just keep going. I was in a boxing tournament in Castalia, North Carolina in 1982. It was Quebec/North Carolina/Cuba.Invite only, I was on the Quebec provincial team at the time, and I got my ASS KICKED by this little Cuban MOFO, who was two weight classes below me. Tough little motherfuckers! They played the Cuban national anthem at the end when they announced the winner. Talk to a boxer, I have never, EVER, cared if I won a boxing match while standing in a ring, because I was so tired at the end, I didn't WANT the ref to lift my arm up! I respect ALL anthems, though. And this time, Bookie's right. If ya got a problem when it comes to anthems, shut the fuck up! I've seen, many times, french separitist assholes booing "oh Canada" and it makes me sick! But ya can't kill all of 'em, so just keep truck'in....respect all, hate a few...
Okay, my little SS buddy, I'm going to say it one more time. Why would anybody cheer the anthem of another country? I don't know in that simple question set you off and made you decide I was a communist, but something did. Perhaps you should head back to school and learn to read.
