I think the arrange to have everyone meet at once is a good idea. That way you know people will be online.

I think it would be cool if Canadaka.net had it's own chat room for members so that discussions could take place in chat rooms live rather than just cluttering up message boards.

Canadaka @ Tue Apr 26, 2005 8:40 am

see above, this has been discussed, not enough interest, and takes too much away from forums.

(I merged the topic)

H,, im thinking maybe a chat room for the summer might work.. seems like a lot of high school and collage students might have more time on there hands. So as well as posting in the forum, they can chat maybe keep some of the topics in the forums cleaner, less back and forth banter if they are bantering in a chat.

we'll see...

The main reasons chat has not worked in the past and was taken down is becasue, lack of interest and afraid it will take away steam from the forums.

But with the site growing nicely now, might be able to support both.

I haven't been their for a long time but can you not make private rooms in yahoo with passwords to get in. A password could be issued each day when you log in here. WOuldn't that solve the dillema?

Canadaka @ Tue Apr 26, 2005 11:14 pm

well i have tried lots of java chats and crpa liek that. but i think IF a chat room is made i will go back to the good old IRC chat. and have a java client built into Canadaka.net or people can connect through MIRC if they wish.

Richard @ Wed Apr 27, 2005 9:23 pm

Damn been ahwile. I forgot about MIRC still have it on my machine too.

PrairieChick @ Sun Jun 12, 2005 6:05 pm

Did anyone ever create a room on MIRC for this site? I know the topic has been dead a while, just wanted to know if anything came of it? I am new around here LOL and I searched before I posted YAY!!!! LOL

But anyways, I think a chat would be really cool, if you link it on the main page it may take some time to take off but I think it would do well.

Just my two cents ;)

Yes it would be great.
I like the idea ! An IRC channel on undernet.

Blue_Nose @ Sun Jun 12, 2005 6:18 pm

It should be logged, as with the forums.... I find some forums have the activity of a chatroom, but you can't see what other people have written until you finish your post and submit it....

It'd be really great to be able to combine the two... the realtime aspects of chatrooms, but being able to read past discussions like in the forum...

Canadaka @ Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:08 am

hmm interesting though, could probably write some type of script to demp the chatlogs to the forum daily or something...

but a lot of it might be pretty random

Here, here.. I second that. Try not to make it too complicated.. Start with the basics and build upon it. Is there something that is http compatible so people at work can get to it without their firewalls interrupting them?

Canadaka @ Tue Jun 14, 2005 10:48 am

well i have tried several chat programs/servers/scripts. But i seem to like IRC the best. And a java based client that would be on the website for those who don't want to install Mirc, they can just chat on the website.

Blue_Nose @ Fri Jul 08, 2005 4:37 am

Any update on getting a chatroom?

The chattiness of quite a few threads lately makes it hard to find the other discussions... getting a chat room would get rid of the clutter.
