I have been playing around and reading up a lot on web server performance issues. I played around with some tweaks in IIS, that I think might help but msotly I am using a 7day trial of a PHP Compiler.
Basicaly normaly each time somone goes to a page the server calls the php script then has to compile the code then spit out the output to the visitor, this all takes cpu time on the server. So there are various server programs that can compile the php code so that the server doesn't have to do it each request, thus speeding it up. I think i notice a huge difference!
The disadvantages to it are i can't edit the site code directly, i have to keep a second version of the code, then when i made a change recompile the file. also the compiler software costs money, this one i'm using is cheaper than others but still costs $199 USD
So it is sometihng to consider, now that i have tested it and know it works. i will leave this on for the 7 day trial, possibly by then i will have the new server too, and the site will be a blazin
a lot faster for me... and I like the improved look.
To load -15 to 21 seconds.
To go from the home page to the forum-20 seconds.
To refresh-16 seconds.
I have a 10 MbPS connection so that is slow.
The huge sig pics are part of the problem IMO.
Especially the scripts.
When we talked before and I said it was fast....whatever you did that day worked,it was just as fast as the fastest forum. Maybe it was a temp. fix but it worked. When the last post was posted it seemed fast, now it has gone back to a slow crawl on my end.
And I hit refresh after viewing my post and it took 3 seconds, ver fast but this reply took 15 seconds to bring up the box to post this reply in.
Hit send and 2 seconds, thats not bad. This post will also take 2 seconds or less.
k,like it's on steroids now!
Its doing much better nowe Trev... Thank God
the compilor makes a difference, but the speed of the site still greatly depends on the amount of people on it at one time. That all will be a non issue real soon with the new server.
any change in speed, but maybe those who are looking at the pictures have. What I have noticed is that the "Recent Forum Posts" box is too small and scrolls too fast. I have also observed that the whole thing is squished over in the left hand two thirds of my monitor.
Yeah ....alot faster ....thanks bro
with a suggestion from Andem I disabled the Recent topics at the top of the forum for guests. You have to be logged in to see it.
This will speed things up a bit in the forum, specialy since search engine bots wont load it.
I enjoy it. It is about as fast now for me on dial up since I moved than it was sometimes of the day on cable at my old place
YES!!!
So new server is up, site seem a bit faster hehe
its WAY faster for me, i havn't even done and tweaking yet.
